Description
Up for auction here is my personal 1972 GMC Jimmy that is a freshly finished FRAME-OFF resto-mod that has taken a little over a year to complete. Sadly due to health reasons the truck has to go before I'll get to enjoy it so my loss will be your major gain. I am a professional mechanic with over a decade specializing in high end fuel injected modern builds, restoration & modification of classic imports and domestics with a focus on design builds that can be driven daily. My goal with the design build of this truck was to build a daily driver “Convertible SUV” that is low maintenance, dependable on road and off and is loaded with modern improvements while maintaining the classic style. Early Broncos, while also stylishly attractive are much more common and too small when loaded up with camping/beach/ hunting gear and passengers so when it came to choosing my ultimate Convertible SUV it was between a Blazer or Jimmy. Jimmy's being more rare and in my opinion having a better grill became the logical choice for my starter platform. Below is a list of some of the stock features and new improvements:
Sandblasted frame, underside of body, core support, front and rear axles, steering components, bumper brackets, brake/gas pedal etc (over 40hrs of sandblasting went into paint and corrosion removal from parts and hardware not including paint removal from the body to provide the best surface for refinishing)
Power steering (New tie rod & end links, New raised steering arm to accommodate lift kit height)
Power brakes (front discs, rear drum, all new rubber brake lines with custom drop brackets for lift kit)
JVC CD MP3 Audio in jack for mp3 players, Iphones etc with marine 6x9 Coaxials. Great sound!
GM Crate 350 (all new seals, gaskets, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, belts, filters, fluids and fresh engine paint.Engine features long tube headers, Edelbrock Torker II intake manifold, Edelbrock Carb., Edelbrock valve covers, Edelbrock Air Cleaner, Chrome timing chain cover and more)
TH350 transmission (inspected, flushed, cleaned and refinished. new pan gasket)
NP205 Transfer case (cleaned, inspected, painted)
Engine accessories ( cleaned, inspected and replaced or refinished as necessary)
Dual exhaust with V band connectors and chrome turn downs

New Energy Suspension body bushing kit and new hardware
And so much more
The redesign of the rockers, door sills and floor pans removes the trip hazard (especially when lifted) of the stock seam between the rockers and the floor pan. This was also done because the stock seam and sill plate design is notorious for gathering dirt and not allowing water to drain properly. Not to mention the sill plates look terrible in no time after being replaced or refinished. When this new design is used with a bedliner finish the truck gains another major advantage over carpet, cleanup is a breeze! Spill something, have the top down/off and dust, dirt, leaves get in or water from the beach or pets, just open the doors, put the top down and you can blow it out in less than a minute! That means you can take the truck camping, wheeling, to the dunes, get it dirty then give it a quick wash and blow and your ready to go to dinner and be proud of how great it looks. I repainted the truck the original Hugger Orange and while it looks nice its not perfect but you have to be close to see the imperfections.
There are so many parts and improvements to this Jimmy it would take far too long to list. Even at my discounted rates I have spent well over $11k in parts, paint and materials. The truck received over $300 alone in new fasteners! When I purchased the truck it had under 40k miles on the new engine and rebuilt transmission according to the previous owner and upon disassembly the engine and transmission were both in fantastic like new shape. The truck runs and sounds amazing! Finally the many professional labor hours that have gone into this build along with the strong drivetrain and beautiful parts make this a once in a lifetime find at my low reserve. Why spend between $15k -$19k on a freshly painted rust bucket that someone has just Por15'd the tub and frame to hide the rusty cancer?
When I realized I would have to sell the truck I did not order the Softopper or have the seats reskinned since their color, fabric types and styles are very personal options. The seats pictured outside the truck will go with it if the winning buyer wants and can be reskinned in beautiful materials for under $1,000. I put an extra racing seat in for the photos as that was my plan for daily driving along with a Softopper top in black but they are also available in a range of colors and options so I did not purchase it either. Softoppers are also available for under $1,000. If my reserve is met and you purchase the Softopper I will install it for no extra cost before shipment or pickup. The racing seat in the photos will not be included however if you want racing buckets please contact me and I will be happy to work out a deal with you. All inspections are welcome but any cost for the inspection must be covered by you the buyer. Personal inspections are both welcome and encouraged but all inspections must be arranged in advance. Please feel free to call me, Dave, with any questions you might have or for more photos at 775-338-3300. A $1,000 deposit is due within 48hrs of auction close and final payment must be by wire transfer or cashiers check. The truck is for sale both locally and nationwide so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.
