Description

1977 C-10 Silverado BIG 10 shortbed. Actual mileage is unknown but the digital dash now states 9,578 since the truck was restored. Please note that when I refer to something as new on this truck it means that part was installed new when the truck was restored a few years ago. I haven't had the truck long enough to do much other than reroute some wiring and install a new fuel filter.
If you decode the VIN and take a look at the rear leaf spring picture you will see this is a 3/4 ton suspension even though it is a half-ton truck, a C-10. The 4th digit in the VIN, a 4, means this truck is a BIG 10. The BIG 10 was promoted as a heavy duty two wheel drive half-ton for the1975 through 1980 model years and it was exempt from catalytic converter regulations. When new from the showroom this truck would have had a BIG 10 decal on the rear sides of the bed. The GMC version of this truck was known as a Heavy Half. Most BIG 10/Heavy Half trucks were longbeds. As it is this shortbed BIG 10 is quite rare nowadays. It rides very smooth empty and with the BIG 10 suspension is ideal for towing.
The 350 engine has a non-stock cam, hi-rise GM manifold and Edelbrock carb. I do not know the specs of the cam but it has a noticeable lope at idle and sounds aggressive. The engine pulls hard and the TH350 trans shifts fine. The radiator is a new Delphi RA1194 aluminum core with trans cooler. The new battery is an Optimum Red Top model 3478DT with 800CCA. It has a quick-disconnect clamp on the positive terminal. The engine and accessories are all serpentine belt driven. The R12 AC unit and all AC components are new and the AC is very cold. Wiper motor is new as is the radiator fan shroud. The exhaust is new and though I can't find manufacturers marks on them they sound like a typical Magnaflow 40 series, strong and aggressive.
The frame is very clean and showing good paint all over. The power steering is very easy with no squeals and no leaks. The Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS P255/70R15 tires are at about 60% left which is in line with the 9,578 since restoration. I like the steeliesin the stock size with beauty rings and center caps. Very easy to maintain and they look good in this color. The suspension works well and is very smooth riding. Disk brakes in front and drums in rear work well. The parking brake works as it should.
Interior is redone and has no tears or noticable wear on seats. I find the seat very comfortable. The armrests could to be better installed as the screws holding them could be better. The headliner is excellent as are the walls and footboards. The carpeting is excellent with no wear or stains. New rubber all around with no noticeable wind noise. All the weatherstripping, door seals and window seals are new. The sliding rear window rubber is new and the window seals and works well. All together the interior is very quiet and comfortable. The window cranks are tight and work well. The Grant wood steering wheel feels good and works well with the power steering. The steering column is a tilting model. The windows are tinted on the sides and back. The passenger vent window latch is new, the drivers side is original. All of the glass is in excellent shape, no fogging or cracks or chips. The glovebox interior is new.
It's an interesting dash, a Dakota Digital. It's easy to get used to the digital display and you get a much more accurate readout than an analog display. I know it's not traditional but it is pretty cool. The wiper switch and headlight switch are original and work as does the horn and all blinkers and 4-way flashers. The headlights are Lumenia HID H4 and are very bright on both hi and low. The truck has an alarm hooked up to the doors and the hood and whenarmed there are small green LEDs inlaid into each A pillar about 4-5inches up from the dash. It also has a remote start but as it is a carburated engine it doesn't start it well unless warmed up.
It has an Alpine CDA-105 stereo in it with a Memphis 16-PR2.50 amplifier with subwoofers and door speakers. The amplifier and subwoofer are behind the seat. The heavy gauge cable for the amp comes off the battery to a fuse assembly mounted in the engine bay. With the exceptionally quiet interior it really sounds great. This model truck has the antenna built into the windshield.
The body is in very good shape. The front fenders, inner fenders, the radiator support and hood are in excellent shape. Pretty much the entire front clip appears to be new to the restoration and in various places I found the stickers from various parts warehouses. The doors are in excellent shape but need new door pins. I have a new set and I will get them installed if possible. If not then they will be included in the sale. The inner rockers are starting to rust and the outer right side has a small hole, about 1/4". A section of cab support between the rockers and cab mount is rotted out. That's the only really bad piece of body work and can be replaced easily. The cab floor is fine, no rust, no rot. The bed floors and sides are good and the bed is Rhino-lined. There is a small hole in two areas of the bed sides, maybe 1/8". It doesn't look like rot from the inside and I really can't explain why they are there. Maybe something was drilled and mounted there for some reason. The very lower area of the bed quarters just behind the rear wheels have some bondo in them but are not bad. It's not something that needs fixing now and you can't see it unless you crawl under there. The tailgate is fine, no rust and it's straight. Both bumpers are new as are the bumper braces. The paint is 10/10, definitely good enough for a very nice daily driver. It has a couple of dings and scratches but nothing major.
I have a clear title in my name. Considering the price nowadays of C-10's the reserve on this truck is set at the low end. I had recently bought it but medical expenses (new hip has just been scheduled for July) are forcing me to sell it.
