Description
For 1985, Chevrolet introduced the IROC-Z, named after the International Race of Champions. Offered as an option package on the Z28, the Camaro IROC-Z featured an upgraded suspension, lowered ride height, specially valved Delco-Bilstein shocks, larger diameter sway bars, a steering/frame brace known as the "wonder bar", a special decal package, and an optional Tuned Port Injection system taken from the Chevrolet Corvette. New aluminum5-spoke 16-by-8-inch wheels were unique to the new IROC Z.
This very nice example of the iconic 1988 Camaro IROC-Z is a solid and clean car that was ordered with a number of rare and very desirable features such as T-Tops, Power Driver Seat, Tilt Wheel, Cruise Control, and more(see the RPO Codes)! This is a low mileage highly original car with no modifications, 2 owner car that has been garage kept. The 2nd owner claims he never drove it on wet roads.
Exterior photos show a well-preserved car with a few small paint chips here and there but the car shows very well. The car was repainted at some point by original owner. Original owner added aftermarket louvers as well.
Interior pictures reveal an extremely nice interior that shows well with the Deluxe Interior package, Factory AM/FM Cassette Stereo. Factory T-Tops are a must have on an IROC Z and this car doesn't disappoint! The driver’s seat has 3 holes (see picture).
Engine compartment photos reveal the Factory 5.0 Liter TPIV8 that has been well maintained throughout the years and appears very stock and unmodified, which is a refreshing site as so many of these cars were modified and "upgraded" throughout the years. The 2nd owner purchased the car with 72,000 miles and has made the following repairs and upgrades. 2nd owner replaced the Fuel Injectors and the Valve Seals. This engine runs as good as the day it was purchased. 2nd owner also replaced ALL the A/C components including Compressor, Condenser, Valves, Seals and Hoses. 2nd owner also upgraded the Front Disc brakes with slotted and drilled rotors with performance calipers. He also upgraded the factory rear drum brakes. Both the Hood and Rear Hatch have NEW gas support shocks/struts installed. Also has brand new Power Antenna installed.
Underside pictures reveal the solid and un-modified chassis that appears largely stock with very minimal superficial rust present on some components.
While this is a very nice example of the 1988 IROC Z, it's not perfect. There are a few small nicks in the paint and there is two small dings on the passenger side. Clear Title in hand!
