Description
1970 396 SS Chevelle
You are viewing a very original 70 Chevelle SS 396/350 horse car with build sheet. The car has 105K original miles. The gauge cluster was changed out with a factory tach cluster so the mileage on odometer on the installed cluster is wrong. The original cluster goes with the car and shows the miles when removed. The car is a west coast car and was bought in Arizona 4 years ago. It has primarily been restored, but left with much of its originality.
Please read on for more particulars of the car:
What has been done by the current owner:
Complete brake job all around including master cylinder, new power steering box, new radiator hoses, tune up, new exhaust with 40 series Flow Masters including headers and shocks.
Body/Paint: The body is in very good condition with rear fender lips patched. Front inner fenders are steel from the factory. The paint is the original color base/clear and is in really nice condition with the exception of some contamination under the paint in a couple areas. The car was painted 8 years ago. Right quarter behind door and left front fender (pics available). Original to the car Cowl Induction hood.
Interior: The interior is black, but was originally tan. The interior is overall in very good to excellent condition. Carpet, sail panels, headliner, seat covers, door panels and package tray were replaced. The dash pad and seat belts with shoulder harness are original to the car and show signs of ware. Stewart Warner dual gauge panel with temp and oil. Column shift bench car from the factory.
Running Gear: The drive train is original and numbers matching. 396/350 rebuilt and runs excellent, original distributor, heads, intake and carb. Trans is a TH400 rebuilt and shifts as it should. 12 bolt with 331 open gears. Power steering
Suspension: The suspension is original to the car and rides excellent with a nice tight feel. The only component replaced was the passenger side upper ball joint. New shocks
Brakes: Stock and restored power.
Exhaust: 2 ½ inch exhaust pipes with40 series Flow Masters. Ceramic coated Flow Master headers that happen to be the original test set. This car was used by Flow Master when they decided to build complete exhaust systems for 70 BB Chevelles. The plant was located near the car and they asked to do the initial set using this car with jigs being made based on this set installed on the car. Sounds awesome. Original exhaust manifolds come with the car.
What doesn’t work: gas gauge, temp, oil and tach not working due to the cluster change out. Proper harness boot was not installed for a tach cluster, but the speedo does work. A proper harness will eliminate this issue.
Bright work: All original to the car with some signs of ware including the chrome bumpers, but very presentable.
Glass: All original in very good condition with a few scratches.
Wheels/Tires: BFGs 225/70 14 new with original wheels in very good condition.
Summary: This car represents a very original car and is real as it came from the factory with the exception of interior color change out. Makes a great driver to enjoy with out breaking the bank. The price is reasonable and represents a great value for the money. I have over 120 pictures of the car so please contact me and provide your email address if you would like additional pictures. Don’t miss out on this affordable ride.
Disclaimer: The car is for sale locally. The owner has the right to cancel the auction at any time for any reason. No warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied with the car being sold in "AS IS" condition.
