Description
1963 Chevy Corvair Monza 900 - Automatic!
This is a zippy little time capsule from the past that is fun to drive for the entry level classic car enthusiast. Everywhere you go you'll get compliments - especially from the older guys out there who get to remember their past in one of the first American sports cars!! I drive it every day for local errands, beach runs, dinner, etc.
The engine runs very well and just had both carburetors rebuilt and installed ($1200 value). The gas tank was replaced in 2014. It starts on first crank and runs well as a new ignition was also just replaced. All of the mechanicals work well though the gas gauge needs to be synchronized and the radio needs to be reconnected.
The body and overall condition needs some work depending on how you plan on driving the car, and the top, while waterproof and does not leak, may want to be replaced - the mechanics are fine - it just needs a new rag ($300 on ebay - that's not a typo, the new top is very inexpensive). The dashboard is a little funky and should be replaced (replacement only $288.50 on Clark's Corvair parts: Part No: C5800PF - very easy for the amateur to install)
In terms of specific body work: There is a dent on the back driver side rear which needs to be pushed out, there is a small crack on the drivers side interior door and there are some places where paint is cracking and where the body has had some prior work. The back bumper has a ding. These are all cosmetic and can be remedied by a body shop fairly easily and with minimal expense. I *think* the car may not be an original white, or at least at one point it was painted over the last half of a century, but nonetheless, the paint is far from perfect but perfect for a beach car. Don't forget - this car is over 50 years old!! I've just received from a body shop here in the East End of Long Island for a paint job and body work bringing it to a "new-looking" condition for $900 - I'm sure it would be much less somewhere else.
PLEASE email me with specific questions about the car. I want the buyer to be happy. This is a fun ride for the guy who wants a beach cruiser or weekend driver without the stress. It's a reliable, safe, and fun car to drive.
Note: This car is for sale locally in East Hampton, NY. Come by and give it a test ride. We reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time if a seller purchases in person here.
