Description
This auction is for a non running 1967 L79 El Camino that is a PROJECT, but the most important parts, the "Born With" drive train are present.
This El Camino has the following factory options, which consist of: L79 - 327ci / 325hp, Muncie M21 Manual Transmission,12 Bolt Rear, Center Console with Clock and Bucket Seats. The factory color combination is Maroon with Black Interior.
The body is in decent shape for being 51 years old needing some rust work, but every panel can be preserved / used with the exception of the hood. The worst panel is the roof, which has rot around the window channel / frame.
Drive Train Info:
Block: #3892657, Dated A 9 7 (April 9, 1967), Pad Stamping V0123ER / Heads are 3890462 Double Humps with 202 Valves, Dated L 13 1966 (Dec 13th 1966) / Crank Shaft # 4577 with #7178 Main Caps.
Trans: Muncie M21 - 3885010 Case.
Rear: Axle Tube Stamping - KF 0118 (Jan 18th, 1967)
I have a couple other pictures, but the listing would only allow 24 photos.
The El Camino still retains it's "BORN WITH" drivetrain; Engine, Transmission and Rear and most of the original parts. The engine is seized from improper storage, but was running at the time of disassembly and was guaranteed by the gentleman to be restorable. At the time of my purchase the El Camino's engine was partly disassembled, which consisted of the intake, both heads and the oil pan being removed. The entire transmission and related components are original i.e. shifter w/ linkage, dated flywheel, bell housing, reverse switch with wiring and driveshaft. The original rear housing is coded for 355 gear ratio, however they have been replaced with 411 gears by the previous owner.
Here is a list of the major components that were discovered to be missing / lost over the 30+years since taken apart and three different storage facilities / locations, according to the second owner.
- Oil Pan (Gave me a different Oil Pan that doesn't belong to the El Camino and is sits on the frame)
- Smog Equipment
- Radiator
- Water Pump
Here is a list of the major original components that were present with the El Camino.
- Drive-train
- Original Intake Manifold
- Original Holley Carburetor
- Original Distributor (Broken at the shaft housing)
- A.I.R. Exhaust Manifolds
- Starter
- Alternator / GT Stamped Bracket
- Master Cylinder
- 8" Timing Cover
- 8" 7173 Finned Harmonic Balancer
This El Camino is a two owner vehicle that was totally disassembled in the 80's by the second owner, whom has owned same since 1968. His intent was to restore the vehicle, which never materialized, only consisting of dissembling and sandblasting the body, frame and some misc. parts. The El Camino is showing 44,000 miles on the odometer and are believed to be actual mileage.
The El Camino was acquired by me and a friend, who assisted in putting / mocking it together with a bolt here and there to secure the parts and making it easier for transport and or shipping. This vehicle is in no way drive-able condition and will require a full restoration. However, it rolls and steers easily. The El Camino I'm sure will have other pieces missing that aren't mentioned but the majority is present with my concentration on major components and not smalls.
This El Camino is being sold as is where is and no warranty has been implied or expressed. Shipping is the responsibility of the winning bidder. A $500.00 deposit is required at the end of the auction with the balance due prior to taking possession of the vehicle.
I have honestly described this L79 El Camino Project, but may have missed something. So with that said please ask any questions that you may have if you're serious in acquiring. Describing this car as I do makes it seem like JUNK, but in reality its a Diamond in the Rough and worth saving.
