Description

For sale is a 1966 Chevy Impala convertible.Financial woes force the sale of my dream car. I purchased it sight unseen atthe end 2019 and it’s description and condition were misrepresented to me.Below I’ll attempt to describe what I know and what I’ve done. Keep in mind I’ma driver and not a pit crew so I don’t know much about auto mechanics orbodies.
The car was born with a 327 V8 paired with a power glide automatictransmission. Now there is a 350 V8 paired with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. It has power steering and a front disc brake conversion. The aftermarketradiator is an aluminum four core. There are headers and dual exhaust.
The Impala has 27xxx miles that were represented to me as original. It came to me from the Northeastern US but the seller stated it was originallyfrom AZ. For over 50 years it did not have a title and was sold on a bill ofsale; therefore there is no way to verify mileage. The NC DMV did an inspectionto verify the vehicle was correct, not stolen or any other issues, and now itis titled.
When I first inspected the Impala, I found a lot of paintimperfections and some botched minor body work. That has all been repaired by aprofessional body shop specializing in collectable vehicles. Now the body is straight, and the paint is very good.
The car came with a new convertible top, but it would notoperate under power. I was operating it manually till the convertible top frameseparated at a weld. So, I brought it to an interior shop specializing inclassics to have the convertible top frame repaired and had all hardware andplumbing replaced. I believe the frame is original but everything else is newin and out. Now the new convertible top operates nicely under power. Includedis a red vinyl parade boot but a few of the snaps don’t work very well so Inever used it.
At first the car left “horsepower sweat” on the floor of mygarage and while driving exhaust gases entered the cabin. I brought it to amechanic that specializes in classics, it now has all fluid and exhaust leaksrepaired.
The wheels use to be a combination of dated aftermarket rimsand bald tires. The wheels shown in my pictures are new, purchased fromDiscount Tire. They have less than 1,000 miles of use.
The battery is also new, purchased from AutoZone 12/21/21.
The glove compartment was locked so I had a local locksmithopen it and I replaced the broken latch with a new one. The seats had beenre-upholstered, they are plush and very comfortable. The rest of the interioris somewhat worn but presents as mostly original, I think.
The front turn signals and reverse lights should be replaced. They work but aren’t in the best shape. I haven’t gotten to it, but I believeit should be an easy, inexpensive fix. The sun visors are in good shape but don’thold position, it hasn’t been much of a concern to me.
That is all I know about the vehicle. Any other repairs ormodifications prior to my ownership I would not have knowledge of. No history ormaintenance paperwork was transferred to me, but the new owner can have thepaperwork on what I’ve done. What I do know is that the car starts, runs, drives, stops, and looks great! While cruising the main drag or travelling athighway speeds this car does not disappoint. It would make a great start for arestoration or a resto mod as per my original intentions. Likewise, it could easilybe used as a reliable daily driver or a weekend fun ride with a lot ofcharacter. Seriously, don’t purchase the car if you don’t want attention. Everytime I take it out, I get a lot of looks, smiles, waves, thumbs up and commentsfrom folks 8 to 80. I have not driven the car much, less than 1000 miles Iassume, I’ve only filled the gas tank twice, it stays in my garage, I only takeit out on occasional fair-weather days.
The 3 shops I have taken it to have all commented that thecar is in great shape, one even made me a low-ball offer. Speaking of which, bad examples of 1966 Impala Convertibles sell for $9-$15k, very good examplessell for $40k-$65, so I believe I have priced the car fairly. They don't make 1966 Impala Convertibles anymore and ones in this good of shape are getting harder to find, it took me awhile to find this one, keep that in mind while bidding. I’ll try toanswer any additional questions to the best of my ability and can takeadditional pictures if desired.
I have represented the vehicle to best of my knowledge. Saleis final and this 1966 Chevrolet Impala is sold “as is”, no warranty isoffered or implied. Shipping will be arranged and paid for by the buyer. Thevehicle is in the Southeast coastal area of NC. I would prefer payment by wiretransfer but will entertain other legitimate methods. The vehicle and titlewill be relinquished upon full payment, and I will not finance. Good luck andthanks for viewing.
