Description
Private sale, by owner.
1978 Chevrolet Silverado C10 Suburban.
Big Block, A/C truck !!!
Not much to say (if you know what you are looking at, you know the value here) so I'll keep this brief.
This is a complete unmolested, UNTOUCHED 100% factory GM original, CLEAN SLATE.454Air conditioning.Original paintOriginal, well. EVERYTHING.Fresh as can be. No UV fading or damage. Garage kept always.
History:
To some people this doesn't matter. Just scroll by if it's too much reading for you.
To me, the history is almost as important as the vehicle itself. It's fully part & parcel to the whole purchase and ownership. I find ultra low mileage vehicles to have particularly interesting stories. To me, the story is often almost as important as the vehicle itself. With that, here it is
Bought new back in 1978 by an older man-&-wife, along with a brand new RV trailer, to take their grandchildren on some good 'ol fashioned camping trips (like they did years before with their own children). Used for several trips, and parked in the garage in-between time.Eventually the un-used Suburban was sold, with the RV trailer to their neighbours (who had admired it since it arrived new from the dealership). This was also an older couple (although not as old as the original owners) with grown up children of their own. Plan was to use the now almost-vintage Suburban and trailer for some enjoyable retirement travels.Years had passed and the best of intentions never came through. The Suburban sat in the garage, and trailer in a covered carport. After an extended number of years they decided that it's probably their last chance and they should take a small venture. Unfortunately by this time, they discovered that (for whatever reason) the RV trailer was likely too old. As a sidenote, the trailer may have been perfectly fine It looked in amaaaazing shape to me! The elderly couple, now in their 80's seemed to be nervous and anxious people. He was once a teacher/professer and she was a housewife. They weren't terribly hands-on or knowledgeable in many facets, so to speak. My feeling was perhaps an over-abundance of nervous caution and unsubstantiated worry kept them from using it.The Suburban remained parked in the garage. It came out a couple times a year and the elderly husband and wife took turns driving it around their neighbourhood together. This was a well loved, just unused (but not forgotten) Chevy Suburban.
Please note, this is a private sale. Nothing, besides the tires, has been shined up. This vehicle has not been spiffed-up or shined. It is exactly the way we got it, and the way it has always been. My plan was to lower it and put on 1 of either sets of wheels I had purchased for it. One set is a wider set of Weld Wheels with Toyo Proxes, and the other a set of American Racing Torque Thrust wheels. Both are 17's. I couldn't decide. Either set (or both) are available to the winning bidder for $1,250/each.
It is believed that this Suburban has only 24,641 miles !!!!!
Mileage on this Suburban has adamantly been stated to me as correct. It is precisely 38,204 kilometres (or 24,641 miles).
The speedo reads in both km/h and mph. The odometer reads in kms. 38,204 kms works out to 24,641 miles.
I have no reason to believe the Suburban has more than 24,641 miles.
I love low mileage vehicles. To me, they are the holy grail in collecting and collectibility/investment for future value. But, because there is sadly no documentation or provenance I cannot 100% confirm this with absolute scientific certainty.
I asked why no paperwork was kept and the answer was simple They honestly did not know. To them, it was entirely a non-concern. They were shocked and disappointed to find the value of the provenance. I suppose it was like keeping the box for an antique toy. At the time the toy was new, potential future worth was not a consideration; pure enjoyment was the concern.
Full disclosure:
There are flaws and distractions from this vehicle's perfection. You may find some of these terribly minor but, in the effort of full disclosure, I will outline every one in point form. Please note, there may be others I haven't noticed but here's what I see.
There is a small dent (about 1.5" in length) in the upper edge of the passenger front fender. The paintless dent repair clinic quoted me 350 to remove this dent. They offered a 90% degree of certainty they could remove it so it wouldn't be noticeable. There is one small dent in the hood. I'd describe it as perhaps dime or nickle(?) sized.PDR quote to remove this was an additional 100 if we were getting the fender dent taken care ofAhead of both rear wheel openings, there is a section about 6 x 8" in size that have been cover-painted in the wrong shade of brown. Examining these areas, it is clearly evident that this was not a cover-up of any corrosion but, perhaps a preventative measure to cover some rock chips. I believe some careful sanding would remove the peeling paint. I'm highly suspect it wasn't applied properly and the adhesion is minimal. The driver's side sun visor has a small tear on the underside. It is about 1" in length.Windshield has a crack starting from the bottom middle. It is approximately 7-8" in length. One of two of the door pull end-covers are not on. Both are in the glove compartment but both have 1 broken plastic tab. Please refer to the pictures. I've tried my best to photo document these flaws.
Details etc:
The Suburban is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Ebay does not have provision for people with multiple residences. Because of it's age and domestic build,
it is free of any import/export restrictions,
and can travel perfectly freely. Title can be transferred as easily as state to state. No difference.
Please do not ask what special papers it needs for the US Answer is NONE.
Once again, it can travel as freely as state to state, and titles are perfectly and immediately transferable.
Take a look at our feedback. We are former car collectors (still to a small degree) but narrowed down nearly all our previous collection. Along the way, we have built some very decent feedback. Common themes are "very helpful", "trust Johnny & Sophia", and "vehicle better than described". My wife Sophia has gotten pretty good at arranging shipping. She'll set everything up for you. You won't have to lift a finger. Most states are I the 1,500 to 2,000 dollar price range. Furthermost destinations like Texas and Florida range about 2,250. Please budget for at least this much.
EUROPEAN shipping is NO PROBLEM. Please inquire if this applies to you.
Car must be paid for within 72 hours of end of auction, unless previous arrangements made before end of auction.
We have sold off 30+ cars. Please see our feedback! I have lost my enthusiasm for our collecting / restoring / racing. During our sell-off, my wife has gotten pretty darn good at setting up shipping and taking care of everything. She'll do the same for this car. Delivery to most US states is in the 1,500 to 1,750 range. Further destinations, like Florida and Texas, are in the 2,250 range.
Nothing much else left to say, except to mention once more that there's NO RESERVE.
With that said, Good Luck and happy bidding!
PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT OUR OTHER AUCTIONS FOR OUR 1964 MALIBU SUPERSPORT AND MY PARENTS OLD 1995 SUBURBAN.
