Description
Here is the story behind this beautiful 1956 Chevy Suburban. Seven years ago, I was approached by a customer with this nice, rust free 1956 Suburban and he wanted it restored back to as close to original as we could. He was going to use the truck to transport his children to soccer games. We took and year and a half and did a 100% restoration and then delivered the vehicle to him. He used it for about 4 years, only putting 175 miles on the truck, taking his two boys and their friends to soccer. After his kids graduated from soccer school, he didn't need the truck any longer, so he parked it in his garage for a couple of years and decided to sell it to me. I don't even think he burnt a full tank of gas. The truck is just like the day I delivered it to him.
So let me tell you about the restoration. First of all the truck was pretty much rust free. We took the body off the frame, had everything sandblasted, epoxy primed all the bare metal and then did the body work on top of that. We used all the best product that we could get, painted it with base coat clear coat and then wet sanded it and buffed it for many hours. The truck is a dark blue and it shows very straight. The frame was painted with a semi-gloss rust shield and is pit free. The underside of the body was primed and a red oxide colored paint was used to duplicate the red oxide color from the original primer. The engine was sent to a machine shop and totally rebuilt by doing new valves, pistons and bored 30 over. The engine is a 283 upgraded from the original 265 but still period correct and looks and runs great. The transmission is a Trimick 5 speed that the customer asked for. That transmission is the only thing that is not period correct to the truck The interior was all painted with a Cameo White and the seats were done with a 1957 Chevy Bel Air fabric. The headliner is done with a 1955 Nomad waffle material. The Suburban has all new glass with all new weatherstripping. The battle ship linoleum was replaced with a vinyl look alike material. All the seats have seat belts. The tires are a light truck tire and there are 5 of them with the original style dog dish hubcaps.
I think you would be hard pressed to find another 1956 Suburban this nice.
Please give me an email if I can answer any other questions.
