Description
1964 IMPERIAL LEBARON 4-DOOR HARDTOP BUY IT NOW FOR $5,900 - WILL ENTERTAIN A REASONABLE OFFER
My dad and I bought this car (for the first time) in 2000 +/- on Ebay, from the estate of the original owner. I personally drove it home, approximately 75 miles, with ice cold A/C and no issues. The engine and transmission were rebuilt prior to our purchase, but I have no documentation of this (we noted the engine had a rebuild tag on it and was painted black upon our inspection). The odometer shows 49,XXX miles, but has rolled over once. Other than the engine color, it remains unmolested under the hood. My dad used it in his rotation of classic daily drivers until cancer took him in 2011. A dear friend of ours purchased it at that time, but now his health has deteriorated and I bought the car back to relieve storage and financial pressures for him. The car has been stored inside, and has seen virtually no use during the past 10 years. I am in the midst of other car projects, and would like find the next caretaker for this fine Imperial rather than let it sit in storage. If this listing results in a no-sale, I will continue to tinker and drive it, and revisit the sale at a future date. Please be realistic if you submit an offer. Clear, current CA title in my name.
I replaced the battery, fuel pump, lots of fluids, and it's a running & driving survivor once again. I have driven it around the neighborhood where it was stored, but I haven't had it past 25-30 mph because the tires are old and flat-spotted. Transmission shifts consistently up and down, push-button selector and "park" lever engagement work as they should, and the brakes are strong and stop straight, with confidence. Engine is incredibly strong, and runs cool and quiet. I have a video of it running, and additional pictures upon request. (or you can google "1964 Imperial LeBaron for sale by BIGREDTODD" and find my other listing).
Body is entirely rust-free, save for a few bubbles on the drivers lower rear quarter. These were present when we bought it, and are unchanged after 20 years. This car is dry as a bone, and has been in Northern California it's entire life (still wears its original-issue black plates, and original dealer frame from Hayward, CA). The paint will shine, but the body has numerous blemishes consistent with a car of it's age. I can't tell if the entire car was repainted, but it has certainly had touch-ups (again, prior to our ownership). The vinyl top is history, and was covered by the original owner with some sort of rubberized treatment that needs to be removed. A reproduction vinyl top was purchased from SMS fabrics (in the correct grain), and is included with the sale. Chrome and trim is all present, and is consistent with the car's condition above average.
Interior is totally original. Front seat will need upholstery, but I'd drive it with a red towel on the driver's side until that time came. The power front seat works in all directions. Dash is cracked/warped, as they all seem to be, but the door panels, carpet, headliner, rear seat, trim panels are exceptional. All A/C & heat controls work (including rear defrost), and I have sourced NOS R-12 freon for the next owner to recharge to spec (3 lbs., 8 oz.). I am confident that a simple A/C service will make the car incredibly cold inside once again. Power windows work but are slow from lack of use. Drivers window is intermittent. Power vent windows do not work, but I have functional spare used units that go with the car. I have noticed that the blinkers don't work, but sourced a correct (and hard to find!!) OEM switch for the factory tilt column, for the next owner to install. Speedometer works, lights work, etc. etc. Glass is all very nice, trunk is totally original and ready to stack bodies in, with tire cover, OEM jack hardware, spare, etc. in place. NOTHING has been detailed or retouched on this car prior to sale. Interior and trunk are dusty, but exactly as shown & will clean up very well.
This is an inexpensive entry into the classic car market, with lots of little extras included for the next buyer. While not ready to drive across country, I'd drive it about town tomorrow while I finish sorting it out (after new tires are installed, of course). I really don't have the time time to give this car the attention it deserves, so I'd like to send it on to a good home. If it doesn't sell, it will stay tucked in my storage space.
I welcome international buyers, and am more than willing to write a low-priced bill of sale to help with customs fees, as well as deliver to the shipping port (West Coast Shippers is an excellent company). I am happy to quote shipping, and coordinate all of that on my end (actual costing to be paid by buyer). I use Intercity Transport, Roadrunner, and Bring A Trailer shipping for my pricing. Intercity is enclosed only, but they are the best (and my preference). The other two carriers offer open or enclosed options.
This is obviously a used, vintage car. I cannot provide any guarantee, expressed/implied or otherwise. Inspections are welcome, subject to availability and coordination prior to listing completion. I have had dozens of cars over the years (8 of them Imperials) and this is a hobby, not a business. Bids are binding, and non-negotiable after completion of auction. Please present any questions or concerns prior to bidding, and I will do my best to sufficiently answer or document prior to auctions end. Car is for sale locally, and is subject to prior sale which would end this listing early. Non-refundable deposit VIA PayPal is due within 24 hours of successfully winning the listing, with balance VIA cash or bank wire transfer within 7 business days. All funds to be transferred and cleared prior to shipment of vehicle. By purchasing, you accept all of these easy terms.
Thanks for looking, and please email with any questions prior to end of auction.
