Description
After World War II, Chrysler jumped back into production with very few modifications to their model lineup and available body styles. For this reason, the modest 250.6ci Straight Six was remained available for the economy minded buyer and the 323ci L-Head 8-cylinder remained the power plant for the top-of-the-line models. With a gorgeous shape featuring long, curved fenders feeding into the doors, split screen windshield, and a die-cast harmonica-style grille highlighting the front, these impressive cars made quite a luxurious presence going down the road!
We are delighted to offer this 1948 Chrysler Windsor Convertible Coupe finished in Sumac Red with matching Dark Red combination cloth/vinyl interior!Produced from 1946-1948, only 11,200 of these examples were ever made during the short 3-year run. With an original list price at $1,991 in 1948, it measured a 121.5" wheelbase and weighed in at 3,693 pounds, making them wonderful road-going cruisers!Powered by its original 250.6ci Straight 6 cylinder engine and the durable Fluid-Drive 4-speed semi-automatic transmission, it produced an ideal 114 factory-rated horsepower, a surprising 21 horsepower less than Chrysler's larger V8 counterpart.Additional options include power folding convertible top, turn signals, push-button Highlander AM radio with station presets & tone control, trip odometer, interior courtesy/map lights, Chrysler Model 53 Comfort Master heater & defrost system, vacuum wipers, correct front & rear bumper guards, center-mounted trunk brake light, cowl vent, chrome hubcaps & trim rings, and wide whitewall tires (5)!
This example was last purchased by a prominent collector in Jefferson City, MO in July 2014 after he located it in Florida. He commenced a beautiful restoration to include a complete repaint of the exterior color and all new interior upholstery. The car would be completely stripped and expertly prepped for a modern base coat/clear coat finish in Sumac Red.Inside the passenger compartment, new carpet with binding, seat surfaces rebuilt with new padding and material along with matching door panels all renewed for a very sharp presentation!A new Tan Stayfast convertible top was installed with a perfectly fitting padded boot cover when stowed. All exterior chrome brightwork was re-plated by Highline Plating in Cuba, MO and installed after the paint was properly color-sanded and buffed to a smooth, glossy finish! The engine and suspension were addressed in an as-needed manner with the brakes rebuilt during the process with new hoses & lines as well as brand new American Classic 7.60x15 4-ply tires.More recently in October 2021, a new 6-volt battery was replaced, the brake system was flushed & adjusted, and a new radiator cap was installed in preparation for this sale.
It continues to run and drive very well with a quiet engine that pulls very strong, and the transmission shifts properly as it should through the high and low gears. It should satisfy the driver enthusiast who desires to get out and enjoy their classic car!All the original dash instrumentation, dash lights, exterior lights, turn signals, horn, vacuum wipers, and power top all remain fully functional.Only the original radio, interior courtesy lights, and dash clock were found to be inoperable. We would be happy to answer any questions on this vehicle, and welcome personal inspections, so please feel welcome to call to schedule an appointment. We look forward to working with you!
