Description

Valiant Charger VJ XL in Sherwood Green. Original compliance plate options are E33, D32, B51, C25, T15,W35.
It is an early VJ 6/1973 model so is pre pollution.
I bought this Charger as a stock standard column shift auto, 6 seater - it had a 245 fitted at the time, it was unregistered with rough paint .
Pretty much everything on the car has now been changed (except the rough paint still remains).
It was built up as a road registered track car for Oran Park supersprints and hill climbs being the priority.
It was not built up to be a show pony and is far from it, nor to be a daily driver. You could drive it daily if you want but the temptation is always there to floor it, so fuel consumption would be your main worry.
Unfortunately Oran Park closed before the car was ready and I have been hanging on to it without driving it much at all so its time to move it on.
It has only done approx. 1,500 km since finishing it around 4 years ago.
Paint and body were left mostly untouched as it was not a priority.
It was a fairly good body to start with and only minor rust repairs were done in several areas. There has been some previous rust repairs in the boot before I got it (patches welded ) and these were left as is.
There is a minor very shallow scrape on the left side rear quarter panel. Rest of the car is straight.
Lots of time effort and $ has been poured into the buildup.
MOTOR: The 1974 block 265 hemi was rebuilt by the previous owner. It was virtually a new motor when I put it in the Charger. I bought in a VG as an unfinished project. The motor was only ever garage started, never actually driven.
Specs are 60 thou over, Camtech billet hydraulic cam (E38 spec), double row timing chain, head bowls ported, new pistons rings, bearings, etc and rebuilt oil pump, custom chrome moly push rods.
Oil filter fitting converted to fit Z9 oil filter.
Yella Terra roller rockers ( The heavy duty extruded alloy type not the cheaper Street Terra ones).
Brand new Pacemaker extractors were fitted and a 2.5 inch single exhaust with removable sections so a side pipe could be used.
Motor has triple 45 mm Webers on a single piece Redline manifold and ex Group N Charger air box and fuel rail with pressure gauge fitted.
Mopar Performance chrome ignition box fitted. Distributor regraphed to suit cam.
GEARBOX: Genuine E49 wide ratio 4 speed gearbox fully reconditioned (part number A3546122 )
New Dellow alloy bellhousing and new heavy duty Excedy clutch.
Tailshaft balanced and new uni's fitted.
DIFF: Fully reco. B/W limited slip diff with 3.5 ratio gears.
CHASSIS : Chassis rail on drivers side steering box area needed work so now has extra internal bracing and proper drainage channels fitted and outside was fabricated with all new steel.
It will now last a lot longer than any NOS rail as is stronger and there are no water traps inside. This was done by Anton the ex PPR chassis rebuild guru.
SUSPENSION: Modified and strengthened lower control arms for extra negative camber, front 27 mm sway bar, all new steering components and bushes,
new Mopar Performance .89 inch torsion bars, factory RT rear lowering blocks, reset rear springs (half inch lower), adjustable front spring hangers , RT 16 :1 steering box with K10 Charger steering column (has factory hazard light switch),
Koni adjustable shocks front and rear.
BRAKES: New booster, master cylinder, slotted front rotors, rebuilt VJ calipers with Ferodo Excel pads, new wheel cylinders and new reproduction RT finned rear drums.
INTERIOR: New Cams approved Bond full steel roll cage with drivers side intrusion bar custom made and installed by Bond roll bars. Half cage only is currently fitted for street use.
Sparco Junior fixed race seat and Sparco 4 point harness.
Rear seat removed.
This Charger is NSW road registered and engineered with papers as a 2 seater with rear seat removal , with the half cage, and the drivers race seat.
Drivers front seat belt is also fitted to comply with rego.
Reproduction 4 speed tunnel shifter box welded in so looks like a factory 4 speed.
Passenger side seat is currently an old spare driver seat I had laying around and I will change this back to the original Charger XL bucket seat that was in the car when I bought it.The current passenger seat is not included.
Steering wheel is an ex Holden VN SS Momo with adaptor to fit the Valiant column.
Gauges are Autometer tacho with shift light, oil pressure gauge and Speco water temp gauge. There is a bigger oil warning light next to the tacho but is not hooked up.
All the original dash gauges are hooked up and all working fine.
The roof lining has tears, and the remaining trim on the tops of the doors is the well worn original.
RT mirrors fitted on both sides (left was NOS when I fitted it).
RADIATOR: I have set up a Commodore V6 radiator and used off the shelf early model Holden hoses.
This was a proven Group N setup and works well, the car never runs hot.
WHEELS & TYRES: Currently has factory RT alloy 14 x 7 inch ROH wheels and 225/60/14 Bridgestone SF340 Eager tyres. Tread is good but are getting a bit old now if you really push it.
I also have a full set of 15 x 8 inch Bathurst Globe wheels with old Hoosier tyres which I can put on instead of the ROH's if you want (your choice of either). These rims are better suited to the track than the ROH's.
BODY: Has an old school pop up sunroof ,which was there when I bought the car.
I also have a full roof section from another Charger that goes with the sale.
Paint is rough, looks like it may have had a cheap respray at some stage and is faded and peeling in spots ,paint cracking in spots, some areas on the rear quarter need rubbing back as have not been finished off after repairs (sanding swirl marks), and some minor surface rust.
Shallow scrape along LH quarter panel. Would never win a 'best paint and panel 'award..
SPARES: Spare bonnet , Sherwood Green front nose section, blinkers, lights, headlight surrounds, dash gauges ,perfect VJ Charger grill without any holes or damage,
dashpad, Group N Charger alloy front brake cooling ducts, front half of Bond steel roll cage, tail shaft loop, bumper bar brackets, Charger roof cut.
All the original parts I still have that were removed during the build are included- the passenger seat , heater and hoses ( has RT blank off now fitted to the firewall ) , rear seat, carpet, rear armrests, front door trims, 2.92 diff.
There is a lot more bits and pieces included and more has been done to this car that can be remembered.
Many weight saving tricks were used in the build and the Charger now weighs under 1220kg.
I had it dynoed a couple of years ago and it made just on 200HP at the wheels and gets to 100km/h in under 6 seconds.
It goes like a Ferrari, sounds better than a V8, stops like a modern car and handles like a go-kart :-)

The speedo reading on the car was 30,772 km around 4 & a half years ago before all the new or reconditioned parts were fitted (diff gearbox, motor, suspension, brakes, cage, etc etc.), and it now reads 32,231 km so they have done very little work.
It could do with a wheel alignment as has been set up with more than standard neg camber and maybe a dyno tune again.
All receipts for parts and work go with the car.
This Charger is NSW regd. until 7th October 2015 and is engineered with papers.

** The RT-770 plates are not transferable and I am keeping these. Standard RTA plates will be fitted soon.
If not sold as is, I may sell it cheaper at a later date as a much more standard Charger with all the go fast bits removed.
Not interested in swaps unless you have a genuine VG Pacer sedan.

Car can be inspected at Penrith , NSW.
Bank transfer or cash only.
