Description
Stunning 1972 Dodge Charger SE Brougham for sale.
Shortly after getting married in August 1971, the owner of this 1972 Dodge Charger SE walked into Sid Bacon Motor Company, in McPherson, Kansas, and ordered it. The car was built in December that year and Dodge wasted little time in hustling the Charger out to Kansas, as the sales invoice shows it was sold to the newlyweds on December 18, 1971, which included the trade-in of a 1967 Coronet 440. They’ve had the car ever since. It was ordered with a full vinyl top, Brougham package, power disc brakes, power steering, electronic ignition, and air conditioning. It also has a 318 V-8 and a blue vinyl bench-seat interior. Over the past 50 years, a number of the Charger’s elements have been restored or refurbished, including the upholstery, carpet, and headliner, while the B5 Blue paintwork was also redone within the past year, along with a new vinyl roof covering—but the car has remained a family fixture.
POWERTRAINAs the “G” in the fifth position of the VIN indicates, this Charger left the factory with a two-barrel-equipped 318-. V-8, which the seller asserts is original. The car starts easily by pressing the gas pedal to set the choke, and runs perfect. There is no reported history of a rebuild and the engine has been maintained in stock condition. It is matched with a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission that shifts well. There are no known powertrain leaks.
EXTERIORThe B5 Blue paintwork on this Charger was redone within the past year. It is in great condition, with no reported blemishes. The bodywork and preparation prior to the paint job reportedly involved some rust repair, including a section of the roof that was corroded beneath the original vinyl top. Afterwards, a new, full black vinyl roof covering was fitted to the redone body. Receipts show that over $23,000 was spent on paint and body work. The exterior trim is in good condition, the headlight doors operate normally. The glass is in very good condition, with no reported cracks or significant chips, and the window and door seals are new along with the chrome window trim.
NTERIORInside, the Charger’s blue vinyl bench-seat interior has been largely restored, with new seat covers, new carpet, and a new headliner. They're in great condition, with almost no visible wear. The dash pad is in very good condition with no cracks. The interior trim is intact and in good shape, the switch for the rear-window defogger does not work. The car retains its original AM radio and rear speaker, which work, as well as the factory air-conditioning system.
CHASSISThe chassis, suspension, and brake components are stock and in good condition, with no known needs or issues. The car drives very good on the original steel wheels with wheel covers that are wrapped with brand-new radial tires. New brakes and brake lines were installed on the car recently.
DOCUMENTATION The car has its original title from 1972. Additional documentation includes the build sheet, the window sticker, the original dealer invoice, and original factory manuals. This 1972 Dodge Charger SE also comes with 50 years of stories from the one-and-only couple to have owned it. After half a century, they say the car simply isn’t being driven as much as it should and that it’s time for a new, appreciative owner who will devote more time behind the wheel with it.
