Description

Up for auction is a rare 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. This amazing piece of Mopar history was a 1-Owner California Car for almost its entire life. A little over a year ago, I purchased the car from the original family. They had completed 90% of the build, but due to an illness, they were unable to finish the car. They told me they had $65,000.00 in the build when they had to stop. By the looks of the parts list and work completed listed below, I would agree. Yes, there are a few things left to be done, however the costly items have already been taken care of and I have almost all of the parts new in the box to finish her. These vintage R/T's are becoming harder and harder to find, even more difficult to find in this condition. I also have all of the original parts that were replaced during the build and will include them with the car upon transfer to her new owner.
Currently the car is powered by a professionally built 383 Magnum that came out of a 1969 Road Runner. It was built by H&E Racing out of Lancaster, CA. The original owner told me it was set up with drag racing in mind. After spending $15K on the motor, she is now cranking out 600 HP. Some of the goodies are:
· Pete Jackson gear drives
· Beautiful new set of stainless steel Hooker Super Competition headers
· New Holley Street Dominator aluminum intake
· New Holley 850 double pumper
· New MSD ignition system
Power is transferred to the ground through a Centerforce racing clutch, a rebuilt A833 4-speed transmission and a rebuilt posi trac differential (3.77 ratio) with a new Detroit Locker. This is a great combination if you want to go out and beat up on your friends at the drag strip and not have to worry about shelling a numbers matching motor.
Now if you're not into the racing scene, I have the original numbers matching 440 Magnum that breeds envy when you're parked at the car show. It is complete and original from pan to carburetor, disassembled and ready for buyers inspection.
So please remember when bidding, this is an original numbers matching R/T that comes with 2 engines:
· A wicked rebuilt 383 Magnum with $15K invested that is currently in the car
· The numbers matching 440 that was in the car when she rolled off the assembly line
The car has a custom rear spoiler and custom rear flares, that along with its aggressive cowl hood, gives it somewhat of a Nascar look. The Pearl White paint job on the car is 4 or 5 years old, but shows well. I have posted close-up pictures of any area that needs touched up. All floor pans professionally repaired.
· It has one chip in the paint about 1/2 the size of a dime on the driver door and a couple of very small scratches on the same door that need to be touched up.
· She could use a good blocking out with some 1,000 grit and a good buffing.
· The driver's side fender has very minor damage.
· The hood will need painting to match the car, so that would be a good time to do any touch-ups.
· Cut-out for air cleaner needs to be cut out so that hood will lay flush.
· Spots on ground in pics are wet spots from washing car.
The car has been garaged and only driven around the block once or twice a month since the total overhaul began, just to keep things moving and in good shape. I have posted several pictures of the car and pictures of the new parts that need to be installed as well as a picture of the original 440 block that shows the numbers on the block match the VIN. I also posted pictures of the original crankshaft, original intake manifold, original exhaust manifolds, original carburetor, original radio, and original bumpers. I also snapped a picture of the collection of parts that were replaced in the build. Too many parts to take individual photos, but if you would like me to take a picture of something in particular, I will be happy to do so.
This means, in one auction, you will get:
· 1968 R/T Charger that is 90% finished with most of the parts to finish car new in the box
· 2 engines (Original 440 Magnum, one built 383 Magnum)
· An extra 4-speed transmission (A833)
· Two posi trac differentials (one in car has 3.77 gears and a new Detroit Locker, and Original Pumpkin 3.23 Ratio)
In addition, I have all parts that were replaced during the build. I also have the original bumpers that can be re-chromed if returning the car back original. Below, I have listed:
· New and rebuilt parts that have already been installed
