Description
This is a very rare, original and unusual 1990 Dodge Dakota converted By L.E.R. Industries Of Michigan for Dodge as a tribute to the LRT's produced in 1978, 79. It's not a homemade cobbled together pile of parts..
These trucks were ordered through Dodge dealers and a limited number were professionally converted to LIL Red Express Trucks. There were approximately 150 made in 1990. There is a build sticker from LE.R. on the left door jamb. It lists the truck as stock #9703. The entire rear box is a Fiberglas step side with a Steel box. Rear exhaust stacks were originally for show and not functional. This truck has the exhaust routed through the stacks. New Flo- Master one in two out Muffler, Truck sounds great, Lil Red Express gold decals. I don't know if the paint and decals are original. I keep it waxed and polished. The fiberglass bed has a vinyl tonneau. The inside of the bed has been coated with a black material. There is a steel liner and floor in the bed. LER had a fancy name for it called Galvineel and it is corrosion proof. There is no rust on this truck. There is minor surface rust in some spots on the under carriage. None on the body. Everything works as it should. I added a small Sun tach in front of the in dash unit. That tach would cut in and out and I didn't want to remove it. The interior is in excellent condition, no rips or tears. Some of the plastic trim has faded. The A/c blows cold and the radio is a dodge AM/FM/CD/Cassette. All the gauges work. the gas gauge reads high. I refill every 200 miles because I don't always trust it. Tinted sliding rear window. There is no cruise control and the wipers are 2 speed with washers. I drive the truck locally and to cruise nights and car shows. I made a 600 mile trip in December to pick up a motor scooter. The truck ran fine and there were no issues with any of it. Because of the rarity these trucks are few and far between. This truck has been maintained and well taken care of. It is 25 years old and I often think that the fiberglas bed conversion saved it from the rust heap. How many 25 year old Chrysler built vehicles have no rust issues..This truck offers you the comfort and reliability of a driver with the looks of a rare classic.
This 1990 is rarer then the original 78-79 LRE's. It is 2 wheel drive, 3.9 V6, auto trans with overdrive. A/C, AM FM with Cassette and CD. Cloth bench seat. 114,150 original miles. K&N air filter. No accidents. Clean Car fax. 4 Cooper Cobra tires on American Racing Outlaw 15 " rims. Fronts are 235-60R15. the rears are 275-60R15. Truck has a great stance. This Truck is in exceptional original condition. Paint and decals are in good shape. There is a small dent on the drivers side front fender( see photo) A few dings and scratches barely noticeable. No rust anywhere and drives great. There is a very small chip near the bottom of the windshield on the drivers side. Did not affect inspection. Easy fix. Sliding rear window. Roll up windows. Fitted tonneau cover
I would doubt if any one looking at this ad has ever seen one of these in person. There seems to be no shortage of the 78 and 79 Lil Red Express selling for big money. You will be the only one out there with one of these. It really is a fun truck.
e-mail with questions. I would appreciate only serious bidders. I am retired and at my age my time is worth more than money. I am located in Riverhead Long Island NY. We are about 70 miles east of NYC in a rural farming area. This is a reasonably priced fun vehicle that is a great way to get into the old car hobby without selling your kids.
