Description
For
Sale is a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS, this car has survived 50 years with majority of its original parts. If you are looking
for a perfect paint job “Trailer Queen” this car is not for you, but with minor
body work it could be.
This car was used for drag racing, there are a few door dings and some irregularities in the body. It looks like the left rear axle broke during its racing days and there is some minor left rear wheel well damage. The rear inner fender lips were cut away to clear larger slicks. It also appears that the rear inner fenders were pushed out slightly for tire clearance, which was very common during this era.
There is ZERO rust on this car, it has all original sheet metal and floors (there was some minor surface rust on the lower right rear dog leg from battery acid because the drain tube to the battery tray was broken.)
The car has lived its life in Mojave California and now Bakersfield. Per my research it was taken to a body shop for re-paint in 1978, where the car sat indoors until I purchased it. The body shop removed the windshield, rear window, chrome, battery, and cables. Some priming and body work was done at that time. They also removed the rear stripes. The original owner never paid the body shop and the car was leaned and then sold.
We wet sanded, sealed, painted the car “B5 blue” with clear coat. No major body work was done to preserve originality.
The car shows 28,028 miles which I think is correct. The upper window door rubber is original, shifter boot is original, windshield is new, all other glass is original, front and rear glass seals and door/trunk rubber have been replaced. The front and rear armrests are original, as are the rear door panels. The upholstery, seats, carpet, front panels and head liner have been replaced.
Mechanically the car is excellent, we think the engine and transmission are original or possibly a dealer block replacement. The engine and transmission have been re-sealed and new gaskets, tune up parts, water pump, fuel pump, belts hoses, heater core, and clutch assembly have been installed. Shifter is original. The rear end is the original 8 ¾ heavy duty 391 posi. All new brake lines, rear shoes and drums, front pads, master cylinder, and all rubber lines have been replaced. Front calipers and rotors original to car. We installed new shocks, new exhaust (with glass packs, car had headers when I got it, it has original manifolds now.) Gas tank and front sway bar replaced (sway bar was missing). It has an original 26” core radiator, radiator core is new. Has original re built AVS carburetor, original distributor and much more.
This car is a true factory drag car, it is an animal and will take your breath away. It rides like new and stops great. It has new radial tires, P185x70xr14 front and P225x70 R14 rear (and it smokes them) on MOPAR 5 on 4 rally wheels.
My understanding is that not many 383 Magnum 4 speed Darts were built and only one that I'm aware of with the factory trunk mounted battery. Besides the usual fender tag there is another tag, we think for the trunk mounted battery. Jack and spare tire all there, spare tire is 1960s date code. The car has original seat belts and shoulder harness. Car was factory undercoated. Please see Fender tag breakdown in the photos.
I can provide vehicle inspection by 3rd party shop if requested.
