Description
Offered with a reasonable reserve is a 1986 Dodge Omni GLHS.
If you are looking at this car – you already know the story of how a little Omni lapped Willow Springs raceway faster than a Ferrari 308 and a 1965 Mustang GT350.
We purchased this car in August of 2014 with an unknown number of miles on it (title reads exempt). It shows 109,548 miles on the odometer. I have probably put less than 250 miles on it. The engine and turbo were professionally rebuilt in 2013 about 500 miles before I purchased it.
It was repainted black (in roughly 2000) and it was not high quality. There are various chips and scratches throughout. The roughest part of the car is the drip rail above the driver’s door. There was some work done there (or not done) prior to the paint job and rust is bubbling up in this area. I have a patch panel that was cut out of a regular Omni that will come with the car just in case someone is restoring this car and wants fresh metal. It does not have any other rust, it is straight and almost everything is there.
To be great it will need hatch lifts, passenger side wiper(broken), some original seats, struts (a previous owner cut a set down to lower the car which looks great but can be a bit bouncy/harsh when blasting around back roads), door handles (some work from outside and some work from inside, but not always from both), a new paint job and some other little TLC here and there. I have a set of front Koni struts and both Koni rear shocks that will come with the car (may be good, but assume the struts need rebuilt).
I have a glove box signed by Carroll Shelby that unfortunately has broken from the dash. It will be included with the sale. There is also a non-signed glove box door that will come with the car.
I have the original GLHS warranty booklet that has the name of the original owner on it. It was delivered new in Tampa, we bought it from a gentleman in Jacksonville, and it currently resides in Palm City – which makes me think it has always been a Florida car.
There were only 500 of these cars built and restored examples sell in the mid teens to 20k. Buy this one cheap and wait or restore it and make some money or just take it auto crossing and have a blast!
We are also selling our 1987 Charger GLHS. If you want a car that is already together, looks great, runs great and can go anywhere; checkout that auction as well. If the same person buys both – I will open up my collection of sales brochures, period correct Shelby jackets/shirts, autographed memorabilia, etc. and let them purchase some items at an additional cost.
I want you to happy with your purchase, so if you have a specific thing you would like a close up picture of, please let me know.
Non-refundable payment of $250 due within 24 hours of auction end through Paypal or overnight mail in the form of a cashiers check. Remainder to be paid by cashiers check or money order within seven (7) days of auction end. Paypal is NOT accepted for final payment! Vehicle is sold as is with no warranty.
I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is advertised in various places.
I can store the car for an extended time if needed. It is the buyer’s responsibility to coordinate delivery of the car (I will help in whatever way I can).
Please do not bid if you do not have the funds available NOW. Talk to your banker/lender/spouse before placing a bid. Ebay is a binding contract. Non-paying buyers will be dealt with to the fullest extent allowed. Again – if you don’t intend to buy, please do not bid.
