Description
1989 Dodge Ramcharger Series W100 4x4
One of 18,973 Ramchargers made in 1989318 CID V-8 engine with throttle-body fuel injection and dual exhaustsLoadflite three-speed automatic transmission (code TF-727A), automatic locking hubs and New Process 241 transfer case plus Dana 44 front axle with a center axle disconnectGarnet Pearl Metallic exterior (code CR6) and garnet vinyl interiorAir-conditioning, power steering and power disc/drum brakes35-inch tires with four-inch lift and KC foglights with a Wilco Offroad rear tire mount34-gallon fuel tank, 106-inch wheelbase and 6,000 GVWRChrysler was late to the two-door SUV game with the Dodge Ramcharger in 1974, well after Ford’s Bronco (1966) and Chevrolet’s Blazer (1969). This Series W100 example was made in Chrysler’s Warren, Michigan factory and was an Alabama/Tennessee truck. This W100 4x4 is one of only 18,973 Ramchargers made in 1989.
Finished in Garnet Pearl Metallic, the truck’s paint and trim are in overall very good condition for their age and appears original. The Ram’s bodywork is straight and solid and the chrome bumpers fight tightly to the body. A pair of KC foglights perch atop the front bumper while in back is a Wilco Offroad rear tire mount.
This truck rolls on BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A light truck tires, size 35x12.50R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a vented alloy US Wheel, along with a fifth, rear-mounted tire and wheel mounted in back. The truck has a four-inch lift kit, which really sets this ramcharger apart. The Ramcharger has a 106-inch wheelbase, a 34-gallon fuel tank and a 6,000 GVWR.
Underhood is Chrysler’s venerable 318 CID V-8 engine with throttle-body fuel injection and dual exhausts. This motor is mated to Chrysler’s equally venerable Loadflite three-speed automatic transmission (code TF-727A), automatic locking hub, a New Process 241 transfer case plus Dana 44 front axle with center axle disconnect. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering and power disc/drum brakes.
Inside, the truck has a Garnet Pearl interior with vinyl upholstery. The front buckets with fold-down armrests and rear bench seat all look great. The matching black carpet looks good, too. The garnet-colored headliner looks great after all this time, as does the newer corporate two-spoke steering wheel. The instrument panel comes with a full array of auxiliary gauges and faux wood trim plus a computerized message center, the amp gauge is inop. The inner door liners look great, the center console is clean and in great shape. A column-mounted shifter and a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD player completes the interior.
For 1987, Dodge finally added clearcoat paints for durability. A new steering wheel, full-length door trim panels, and flow-through ventilation increased the interior's appeal. The Ramcharger D100 was launched in 1988, set up as a value leader akin to the Ram 100 and Power Ram 100 pickups unveiled the year before. The 318 V-8 gained fuel injection, with two injectors (one per throttle body); Chrysler finally switched from standard hydraulic lifters over to a roller hydraulic lifter, which allowed for a steeper cam profile with more precise valve-train actuation. For 1989, the standard wheel increased from 14 to 15 inches.
Competition to this Ramcharger in 1989 includes Chevrolet’s K5 Blazer, Ford’s Bronco, GMC’s K5 Jimmy, and Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer.
This survivor SUV is in fantastic shape and just waiting to spend more time with its next owner – is that you? Then come on down to MotoeXotica Classic Cars today and check out this Ramcharger!
