Description

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to purchase a gorgeous Ferrari 308 GTS, built in November 1979, and registered as a 1980 model.
These carbureted models have now become the most sought after cars of this class, and are certainly much more coveted than their successors produced from 1980 to 1985 and, in many circles, are preferred to the 328 models produced from 1986 to 1989.
This is probably because of the fact that there is nothing better than the rush and instant response performance of a well-tuned carbureted car. As well, the simple and dignified, yet aggressive styling of these cars, even though their successors are not that different, seems to be more in line with the earlier and purer Pinanfarina spirit.
Car number 30103 has a documented ownership history spanning back to 1986, and has been owned in southern Ontario, Canada since that time, with the last owner having enjoyed the car for 11 years, and driven it a mere 5500 kms, being about 3400 miles.
The car is presented in its original factory colours of black on black and shows a current odometer reading of 68,320 kms, being about 42,500 miles.
The car was repainted about 20 years ago, but still shows beautifully and consistently it its lustrous black finish and would certainly not merit a repaint unless the new owner wanted to bring it to a whole new level. The front nose and spoiler are fitted with a clear 3M bra, with expected minor chips, and there is also evidence of minor rust bubbling at the bottom of the passenger’s door, to a lesser extent at the bottom of the driver’s door, and very slightly along the horizontal upper rear quarter seam on the driver’s side just behind the “vent”. These issues are not readily discernible but would eventually merit attention and repair that could easily be done in the specific areas, without a full repaint.
The fit, finish and lines on the car are lazer straight and both doors, as well as the rear trunk and front hood open and close effortlessly and line up perfectly.
The interior of the car is original and pristine. The leather on the seats is naturally worn after 34 years, but is still firm and supple without any rips or tears. The carpets are likely original and appear as new. The door panels and targa top are also pristine. All gauges, including the clock work nicely and the car is equipped with a newer style stereo with CD player. The steering wheel is not the original factory issue, but a smaller diameter correct Ferrari wheel obviously installed to allow for more legroom. Original style 308 MOMO steering wheels are readily available, although the currently installed wheel looks and feels good.
The car comes with its original 14” spare sporting the original factory Michelin XWX spare tire that has never been used. The car has its original tool roll and jack assembly, but the wrenches are not original Ferrari issue. The original owner’s manual also comes with the car but there is no pouch or warranty book.
The car drives on correct 16” Ferrari magnesium wheels sporting Michelin Pilot “X” performance tires that are in excellent condition with plenty of life left in them. The carbureted models came with 14” wheels, but they have often been replaced by 16” wheels due to the more attractive and beefier look, and because of the difficulty in sourcing the correct 14” performance tires to fit the smaller rims.
The engine compartment is clean and tidy with all factory serial numbers, and identification and specification plates in place. A new XDI direct electronic ignition system, purchased from Nick Forza Motors of California was recently installed, which significantly improves the drive and will reduce the maintenance costs of the troublesome dual points system. All original parts from the conversion have been retained and go with the car.
The car has had the benefit of having all required major service completed in 2015.
In particular, the following items were completed/installed:
New timing belts
New timing belt idler pulleys
New upgraded water pump from Nick Forza Motorsports
New spark plugs
New spark plug wires
New valve cover gaskets and camshaft seals
New fuel filters
New intake manifold gasket below carburetors
In addition:
All 4 Weber carburetors were rebuilt
The new limiter on the ignition system was set to cut the ignition at 7500 rpm, in order to protect the engine from over revving
An oil change was completed in March 2015 at 67,810 kms
The car was just fully detailed, waxed and buffed/polished and looks stunning
The car drives amazingly with breath-taking acceleration, superb handling and effortless shifting through all gears, and presents as a pristine turnkey driver that will certainly turn heads anywhere, and dazzle at any car show event. The big bonus is that it will only appreciate in value as it is being enjoyed.
The car is located in Toronto, Canada and is priced to sell at a low reserve.
I will be happy to assist with shipping anywhere in Canada, the USA or overseas through TFX International and Rutherford Logistics.
The car is being sold as-is, where-is, and without any warranty or any other representation.
