Description
Up for auction is my 1970 Fiat 500L. I am active duty Navy and I purchased this car in 2004 while stationed at NAS Sigonella, Sicily. While there, I had the car restored. Vehicle was broken down to the bare frame, all interior came out, all the glass came off, engine came out. Frame was cleaned to zero rust and then the interior and exterior was painted Ferrari Red. When it was put back together, they replaced new, the tires, gas tank, sunroof, all the rubber seals for the glass, rubber seals for the doors, and license plate light cover. All the head lights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights and high beams work.
One of the problems with these old Fiats is the distributor. The points get out of whack and need to be retimed. I replaced it with an electric distributor ($360) that only needs to be timed once. If you read the Classic Fiat forums, you'll see many posts about how the electric distributor also makes the engine run much smoother and increases fuel efficiency. Also this month I had the carburetor rebuilt, new fuel pump and lines, gas tank taken out and flushed, new battery put in and the oil changed. She fires right up and will run about 60 mph on the highway. I have a clear Florida title.
Now I'll talk about the flaws:
- A few years ago I had the car stored in my buddy's garage and while parking his car, he pushed into it. Not a collision by any means but you can see in one of the pictures, the panel right next to the passenger headlight is slightly pushed in. That panel can be bought at a store here on Ebay called Everything Fiat. In fact you can replace every part on this car except for frame from that store. They are based out of Atlanta, GA and are very knowledgeable about Fiat parts.
- The speedometer doesn't work, the cable is broken where it should attach to the engine. Can be bought at Everything Fiat for $23.
- Horn doesn't work.
- Driver's side tail light lens cover has a small crack.
- The leather seats have a couple of tears.
That's it, the car is in excellent shape for being 45 years old. It's an absolute blast to drive with the sunroof open and people take pictures every time I take it out for a cruise. I've owned her for 11 years, but now my kids are growing up and I'd rather have a boat. This car is an excellent investment and will continue to increase in value if you take care of her. Please contact me if you would like more pictures, I can send them by email and answer any questions. Happy bidding.
