Description
This Bronco has been an excellent daily driver. I'm the third owner, and the other two (an uncle who bought it new, and a niece who inherited it from him) took awfully good care of it and had the engine rebuilt about 5,000 miles ago.
It has the 5.0L V8 engine, and I put glass pack mufflers on, so she purrs beautifully.(I can send you video if you contact me.)
Mechanically she's in great shape, as I've had a lot of work done to her (with receipts to show) to keep her running solid after 40 years.I've done the following in the past two years:
--full tune-up (plugs, wires, etc.)
--I've changed the oil and checked the fluids every 2,500 miles, and I only run premium (no ethanol) fuel in her
--new exhaust
--new fuel pump
--new front wheel bearings (inner and outer) and hubs
--new inner and outer seal and needle bearings
--new starter and battery
--new rear sway bar links
--new radius arm bushings
--new front brake pads and rotors
--new tires within last 3,000 miles (BF Goodrich All-terrain TA radials, KO2)
My next goal was to tackle the cosmetic issues, but I've only got a start there before I needed to sell her. Here are the issues as I see them:
--I replaced the windshield a year ago, but this being Wyoming, it's cracked again.
--there is rust in the usual places, especially in the tailgate, rear quarter, low behind the doors, and and on the wheel wells
--she was in a hailstorm before I got her. The roof and hood have hail damage. I've priced a new hood at about $375 delivered--not bad.
--the dash is rough, but I bought a dash mat and covered it (see photos); I like the look and had no plans to replace the dash.
--the plastic cover over the dash dials has some missing pieces; I bought a replacement (see photo) but haven't installed it. Obviously the cover will go with the vehicle.
--the inner door panels aren't in great shape, especially the passenger side. I priced a kit that would include both inner door panels and the dash cover for about $400 but hadn't got around to making the purchase.
--the front seat is a bit rough, but I just put a seat cover on it and I've been quite happy with the look.
She really is a great vehicle. The rear cap is in great shape, the rear window works from the dash dial, the carpets are okay (especially for a 40-year-old vehicle), and overall the interior is not bad. The A/C doesn't work (it's 40 years old!) and I just bypassed the monstrosity of a compressor with the fan belt to reduce the drag. The heat works well. The cruise control has been spotty lately, so I haven't been using it; probably an electronic component finally giving up. I upgraded the headlights and taillights to LEDs, if you like that sort of thing; I liked the increased brightness.
I also added an oil pan heater and front plug heater to help it on those cold Wyoming winter mornings.
If you have any questions, please let me know!
