Description
This 1956 Cabover started life in Arizona as a heavy duty tow truck with a boom body on it. Sometime in the 60's, it was parked under a pavilion with a bunch of other classic cars, and in 2017, it was pulled out and rescued to become what you see today! A clean Arizona 1956 F250 bed was sourced and set on top of the frame for the trip back to Florida, and the project got started! The body was in incredible shape, so the plan was to take it down to bare metal, give it buff, and Ceramic coat it. That was a GREAT idea, because it looks awesome! Yes it has dents and dings in it, but that is the point! It is all real steel from front to back, and you can rinse the dirt off with a garden hose! The original glass was removed, and replaced with new seals and trim. All new door mounting hardware, handles, latches, and seals were installed, and bed was treated to all new wood that was hand-cut just for the build before being finished and sealed.
The chassis for the rig was swapped out for a late model GMC truck chassis with a 350ci engine and a TH350 automatic transmission. The engine was pulled and sealed, and got topped with a Holley Fuel Injection unit, custom exhaust manifolds, and some other goodies. It is NOT a hot rod build!!! It was made to drive and enjoy daily with reliability and ease of maintenance being the number one concerns. Brand new driveshaft was installed, along with all new brakes, booster and master cylinder. Power steering and power brakes make it easy for anyone to drive, and the modern chassis gives you an extremely nice ride with handling like you'd expect from a dually pickup.
Inside, a new seat was fit to the frame and covered in beige with dark brown vinyl. Beige vinyl also covers the door panels, rear panel, and dual sun visors. All new chrome door handles and window pulls were installed as well. A Bluetooth speaker with phone connectivity is wired direct, and has a magnetic base to adjust its location. Vintage Air was installed to handle climate duties, and a stainless tilt steering column was put it and topped with a chrome and black leather steering wheel. A full set of AutoMETER gauges were put in to monitor FUEL LEVEL, TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, and VOLTAGE, with a large central speedometer. All appear to be calibrated and working correctly.
It rolls on the original refinished steel wheels it was born with, and they are wrapped in recent Goodyear rubber sized LT235/85R16 all around. Thanks to the fuel injection, it starts up instantly, idles cleanly, and is ready to drive when you are. It goes through the gears with ease, and is smooth shifting and easy to drive. I have personally put about 120 miles on it, and had the BEST time cruising the interstate with all the truckers speeding up for a second look when I went by. Braking is smooth and sure, with just a little bit of modulation in the pedal under hard braking, and no pulling or excessive fade.
It is ready to roll, and needs nothing at this time. It has a clean and clear FLORIDA title as a 1956 FORD truck.
