Take a look at this!It is a 1978 Ford Cortina Mark IV with the rare 2.0 Ghia option. This car is in truly amazing condition inside and out; I would challenge anyone to find a nicer example anywhere in the world. It displays only 37,000 km (23,000 miles) and is a joy to drive, especially with its right hand drive and 4-speed manual transmission.
Now you may ask, what is a Ford Cortina? This model was built by Ford of Britain where it was a huge success. And while Ford built many of these from 1962-1982 only a small percentage remain due in large part to significant rust issues. But not this one! From its Jupiter Red paint and black vinyl top to its factory green floor pans, this car looks more like a 2020 model than something 40+ years old.
The drivetrain uses the same 2.0L OHC engine that was used in millions of Pintos and other Ford models, making it simple and inexpensive to maintain. The 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly and really adds to the driving experience.Note if you have never operated a right-hand-drive vehicle then you may find it takes some getting used to but can be a lot of fun!The brakes and steering are all nice and tight and have been fully inspected. It also has four brand new tires.
The tan cloth interior looks fantastic, especially with the classy wood accents found in the Ghia version. As with the exterior, its condition is nothing like you’d expect from a 1978 vehicle. All the exterior and interior lights work properly. So do all the gauges and indicator lights.Same with the wipers, horn, heater / defroster, and parking brake. All the windows go up and down smoothly and the vintage Radiomobile sound system still works great.Even the clock works (though its accuracy is suspect). The car includes its original owner’s manual and warranty book showing delivery by Attleborough Motor Works to a Mr. Brabrook in 1978.
The number of Cortinas in the world has dropped significantly, and they are rarely seen in the United States. This example is even more exceptional given its very high quality and desirable Ghia package. And not only does this car represent something unique, but it is also very affordable.Whether you crave European motorcars or just want to drive something different, you will have a hard time finding a better candidate than this Cortina.
