Description

Thanks for viewing my classified ad!
I am very reluctantly selling my ultra reliable Ford Explorer. This car has been a workhorse for my painting and decorating business for almost seven years, but the purchase of a newer diesel car forces the sale. This is by far the most reliable car I have ever owned. I live in North London, and I have been on holiday to Dartmoor four times, Cornwall, North Wales, Shropshire, and various trips to Somerset and the home counties, and this great Explorer has had no problems whatsoever. It has started first time, every time, for the whole duration of my ownership. Having been off the road for eight months, I decided to take her for an MOT last Friday, and she passed again! In fact, she has never failed an MOT yet!!! The only advisory being the front and rear brake pads will need replacing in the need future.
Though this Explorer has the 4 litre petrol engine, it's not actually too bad on a long run! Driving from Enfield, North London to Exeter in Devon took around half a tank. Considering the cost of filling the tank was around £90, I think £45 to get to Devon in comfort is a bargain. Much cheaper than the train and without aggravation!
The tax and insurance is quite cheap as well. I was paying around £350 per rear for insurance, fully comp. I don't know what the road tax is now, but I believe it's around the £250.00 mark for 12 months. But please check beforehand.
Any viewing is much welcomed before any commitment is involved!
Here are some features, good and bad;
Metallic green paintwork.Limited Edition Prairie Tan interior.Heated front seats.Electrically adjustable front seats.Power windows.Electric sunroof.Cruise control.Electric adjustable mirrors.Wheels are pretty good condition for the age of the car. I had them repainted three years ago.Lots of tread on the tyres.Single CD player in the dash, plus 6 CD multichanger in the boot.Upgraded speakers (I believe they are JBL).New Bosche front wiper blades.Chrome running boards.To be honest with everyone, I have compiled a list of faults that I know of. Most of the following have never been a problem for me personally, but honestly is the best policy!
Near side rear door does not operate with the central locking, but does open manually.Electric aerial goes up, but needs a slight tug to bring it down. I have a new one somewhere, and will supply it to the buyer if I can find it in time!Faulty engine sensor. Occasionally (especially in the summer), after driving for a while and turning the engine off, when it is restarted, there is a rough idle that lasts for a couple of minutes. Four years ago I asked the guys at my local garage what it could be, and they said it was one of the engine sensors. This sensor was telling the computer that the engine was cold, and therefore started the automatic choke causing a rough idle. They told me not to worry about it, and it has never bothered me in the slightest regard!Rear nearside tyre slowly leaking air from the rim. After I had new tyres fitted a couple of years ago, the tyre went flat a few times. I managed to get it back to the tyre centre and on each occasion they said that 'loose paint from the wheel rim was causing the problem'. On the fourth occasion, I gave up going back to the centre and squirted a can of tyre foam in instead. Since then I just used my air compressor to top it up every couple of weeks or so. Again, this has never really caused me any concern.Will need a air-con recharge. I last had it done two years ago, of which it was blowing ice cold! But advice says a car of this age should have a recharge every couple of years or so.Would also benefit from a service. There are 12 stamps in the service book up to 125,000 miles. After a very bad experience at a local service centre, I had a mechanic friend service it privately, so there are no stamps for this particular servicing. It hasn't been serviced for around two years, though the spark plugs were changed last year, so shouldn't need replacing for a long time.There are lots of age related marks, ie; scuffed bumpers, stone chips to bonnet and small scratches etc, but nothing that effects the running of the car in any way. There is also a small group of rust spots appearing near the petrol cap, but not broken through the paintwork yet.Well, I think that's it! If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The messaging system is probably the best way to contact me, as I will be working during the day. If you leave me your phone number I will get straight back to you when home from work.
