Description
While this 1969 Ford F100 Ranger pickup truck could probably, with some basic maintenance and minor repairs, be used as a daily driver, I am selling it as a running, mostly original core for restoration, customizing or whatever. It has a 360ci V8 engine, three speed automatic transmission, power steering, power drum brakes and factory air conditioning. The air hasn’t worked in a number of years, and we just didn’t need it much after that. We’ve owned it for 29 years, and it has never come home on a hook. We traveled extensively with it in the ‘90’s, hauling motorcycles and gear to numerous rallies and races around the country. When we bought it, we were told that it is a “heavy half”, meaning that there is an extra leaf or two in the rear suspension for carrying a camper, which it apparently did prior to our purchase. There is also a second battery tray in the engine compartment, and wiring to an outlet in the bed. It has a full 8-foot bed. Also, while the emblems on the outside say “Ranger”, there is an emblem on the glove box lid that says “Explorer”, for whatever that is worth. There is a 17-gallon auxiliary fuel tank on the left side, with the valve in the floor next to the drivers seat.
The engine and transmission run/work fine, although the engine uses oil, and the transmission leaks fluid when it sets for any length of time (months). The mileage is not accurate, as there have been a couple of speedometer changes. When we bought it in 1989, the mileage was 88,393 miles. Our best guess is somewhere around 200,000 miles by now. Speaking of mileage, it gets a consistent 10 mpg, uphill, downhill, empty, loaded, pulling an open trailer, whatever!
As mentioned above, this truck is mostly original, with the exception of the steering box, steering column and obviously the steering wheel. They were replaced when it was determined that rebuilding the original steering box was going to be hopeless. The replacement parts are from a later model Ford, I think a 1971 or 1972. Apparently, they could not refit the original steering wheel, so we ended up with the little custom job. Also, the radio is not original.
The overall cosmetic condition is rough, with lots of faded paint and surface rust, but most importantly, no rust through of any kind. This is a solid body. The only evidence of body damage is at the right rear quarter panel where it appears some bodywork was done prior to our purchase. The interior is original except for the fuzzy dashboard material that was there when we got it. I’m guessing that it covers a degraded surface.
Rather than carry on any further, I would be more than happy to answer any questions through eBay that you may have in regards to history, features and specific condition of any parts. It has a clear Arizona title, and is currently registered and insured.
Notice: Please do not bid on this truck if you have no intention of paying for it! Also, please determine the shipping cost to you before you bid. I have sold this truck twice over the last two months, and neither “buyer” has paid! I just want to sell this truck to someone who really wants it, and will pay for it.
