Your unicorn has arrived
Please enjoy the following 350+ photo and 8 HD video presentation of the lowest mileage F150 I've ever had the pleasure of caretaking: a completely loaded, 1 owner, 1996 F150 XLT featuring manual hubs & lever controlled 4X4, 302 V8, 5 speed manual transmission, 3.55:1 Traction Lock axles, 100% factory paint, and an unbelievable 24,600 miles.
The Story
Mr. Perri just turned 56 years young when he decided it was time to replace his '86 F250 that had served him well the last 10 years. Word was out that Ford was changing the incredibly desirable F150 body style for 1997, so what ended up being a short search began for a 1996 model. Mr. Perri saw what would become his next truck sitting on the lot at his local West Virginia dealer. "The Black Beauty" as he calls it, spoke to him immediately with its over the top array of options: Raven Black paint, red interior, XLT trim with all the power options, 302 V8, manual transmission, lever controlled & manual hub 4X4 capped off with 3.55:1 Traction Lock axles.
After an interesting trade-in fiasco, Mr. Perri ended up keeping his '86 F250 after purchasing The Black Beauty. This decision would prove to be key in the mileage remaining as low as it did. Please see the video below, outlining the strategic choices of accessories for The Black Beauty after its purchase. Although Mr. Perri tried his best to drive his new pickup, he started taking his '86 to work when he knew it was going to rain and during the winter months. Soon, the '96 was being driven less and less, with Mr. Perri mainly using it on weekends when making a drive to his family's mountain paradise cabin. Mr. Perri explained that the fiberglass cap on the '96 made it an easy choice to use for hauling lumber and other materials to the cabin. But again, Mr. Perri was careful to keep The Black Beauty on paved roads and garaged when not used.
Mr. Perri said the requests to purchase his beautiful '96 started around 2006 or so. He said the local dealer started on him about trading it in, and a few locals made him promise they'd save it for him. As the years went on, and Mr. Perri entered his 80's, he started thinking more about getting a truck with an automatic transmission. One morning earlier this year, Mr. Perri took The Black Beauty in for an oil change. This drive was different, though. The nerve damage in his left leg made operating the clutch quite painful. While the oil was draining back in service, the sales team AGAIN approached Mr. Perri about trading his beloved '96. This time, he listened
Now riding comfortably in a new 2021, I have the incredible pleasure of offering Mr. Perri's 24,600 mile Black Beauty to an OBS collector
Vehicle Condition
I've included a wide variety of photos and video to show The Black Beauty indoors, as well as outside in the sun and clouds. I want the buyer to see how incredibly glossy and wet the factory Raven Black paint truly is. This truck is stunning, absolutely stunning. Due to age and the few miles that are on it, there are a couple of light dings, a few light, light paint imperfections, and a few touch-ups, but these minor flaws are hardly worth mentioning. The chrome is gorgeous, the trim is bright and deep with color, all of the glass is beautiful, and the interiorwell, just look.
All options work, as shown in the videos. Note that the air is stupid cold. I have no idea why some systems are colder than others, but this is easily the coldest non-R12 air conditioning system I've ever had in an F150 or Bronco. Lastly, the 4 Wheel Drive also operates as it should, and as seen in the videos. Both 4 High and 4 Low were tested, and both engage and disengage as you would expect.
Mechanically, this truck is a complete survivor. As shown in the videos, there are no surprises. It starts, runs, accelerates, shifts, and stops like a 24,000 mile vehicle should. The steering is tight, and suspension feels terrific. Note that the 32" tires do slightly rub on tight turns. Mr. Perri said the oil was changed annually, and this is backed up with the CarFax report. As mentioned in the videos, the tires on the 32 x 11.5" tires were added by Mr. Perri the first week he owned the truck. Please keep in mind that if your intention is to drive this pickup more regularly than he did, the new owner may want to consider new tires and a few other maintenance items just for safety purposes.
In closing, I've owned scores of these OBS F150's and Broncos, and have never had one this untouched AND LOADED with options. This pickup truly falls into the "go find another" category.
