Description

I have only had this truck about 7 months. I bought it and had it shipped across country because I believe it is one of the trucks used at Indy in 1994. In fact, I believe it is one of the first ones delivered and used in the photo shoots. The truck was built as a black truck, as identified by the paint code. It appears to have been repainted to factory white and then later customized with the paint job you see in the pictures. The factory white is visible in the door jams, under the hood, and every place else that was not covered by the custom paint. The black is only visible under the door panels and carpet. This is consistent with the story in SVT magazine about the first "White Lightning" produced specifically for the Indianapolis 500 in 1994. More indicators that I have are the VIN. This was the 4th Lightning made in 1994 and the timing works for Indy. The car fax also shows the ownership consistent with the way they titled vehicles used by the track.
I got this truck to restore it to the original Indy style, but I can't afford to do that right now and unfortunately I can't afford to use it as a daily driver until then either. I am currently driving it every day, but it still gets the 14-15 mpg that it was rated for in 1994.
The truck was set up as a show truck before I got it and not driven much. It was VERY sound mechanically, with a freshly rebuilt transmission, great engine, and new shocks when I got it. I have worked out all the issues that come with a 20+ year old truck sitting around too much:
- Replaced the door seals.
- Replaced the wiper motor.
- Replaced an A/C line. One of the metal ones had another component rubbing against it and after 20 plus years it finally made a hole. Blows cold again and no issues.
- Replaced the rear tank fuel pump. It was just a bad check valve, but needed the entire unit to replace.
- Replaced both side power mirrors.
- Replaced the spark plugs and other routine maintenance, like oil changes.
- Replaced the stereo with an in-dash NAV unit. It looks great and the NAV unit retracts into the stereo when not in use.
- Replaced the windshield.
- Replaced the pump for the windshield washer.
I do have the original grill, painted to match the gray flames, but not the wheels. The wheels on it now are 2nd generation Lightning.
