Description
Up for auction is a 1965 Ford Falcon Futura. I purchased it a year ago with the intention of doing a full restoration but health issues force me to sell it. Most of the hard work has been done. This Falcon came from the factory as a 2 door hardtop with a 289 engine and a 3 speed manual transmission and column shift. Before I got the car, someone put a 302 engine in it and installed a floor shift for the 3 speed. The problem is they cut a large hole in the floor without checking to see where the floor shifter would come through the floor. They were way off but they did cut a steel patch panel to cover the hole. I installed a 4 speed and have purchased a correct panel to position the 4 speed shifter. The previous owner also installed a 9 inch Ford rear end. The original 3 speed transmission with the floor shifter and the original rear end will go with the car. The previous owner also sprayed a coat of primer on the body and the dashboard but did not sand it. Someone also patched 2 small holes on the driver's side floor using the POR 15 and fiberglass system and it looks good. The car also has the original front bucket seats and the rear seat and a center console.
Since I've had the car I've done the following.
The motor was sent out to be rebuilt and should be putting out around 340/350 hp. I added a new carb, intake manifold, shorty headers, valve covers, air breather, water pump, fuel pump. oil pan, distributor, alternator with new brackets, voltage regulator, spark plug wires, battery tray, harmonic balancer, Hi-Torque Mini-starter, aluminum radiator, fan and motor mounts for a Hi-Po 289. I've got over $5,500 in the engine rebuilt and parts. the engine has been placed in the car but has not been started.
The 4 speed transmission is a Ford Top Loader is from an early 1965 Mustang and has a Hurst Competition Plus shifter and has been installed. Cost around $1,100.
It has a Lakewood scatter shield and all new clutch, pressure plate and a new throw our bearing. A new correct Z bar with correct mounting hardware and clutch linkage has been installed. Another $1,200
The car has all new brakes including new master cylinder and all new brake lines. I have not installed the new front to rear fuel line. It's still in the box and will need to be installed. A new fuel tank and sending unit has been installed. 4 new shocks and new front springs have been installed. Another $1,200.
An entire new front end has been installed including new ball joints and sway bar linkage. The steering box has been rebuilt and re-installed. The steering column has been rebuilt and re-installed. Another $700.
The body itself is in good shape with no rust or dents except the panel that goes between the bottom of the rear window and the trunk lid. That panel is slightly bent upward and needs replacing. I already have a new panel that goes with the car. The door gaps line up great and the doors close nicely. Door hinge rebuilt kits go with the car. New door locks and a trunk lock go with the car. All the glass is good except the front windshield which is cracked. I have all the trim pieces including the trim that goes down the sides.
The interior looks good with some surface rust on the floor. The dash has been primered but not sanded down. The speedometer and gauges are with the car but not installed. A new speedometer cable comes the car. The original AM radio and ash tray are still there.
This is a great car to finish restoring and most of the hard work has been done. I have over $500 in new odds and ends that will be needed the finish the project.
I purchased a new wiring harness and have started installing the wiring. A new exhaust system has been bought but has not been installed. The original wiring has been cut up badly and patched. I have already purchased a new ignition switch and new wiper switch and new locks for the doors and trunk. Another $1000.
I have not done anything to the rear end except mount the brakes. The third member has not been installed but the axels have been locked in so the car can be rolled around. The tires look good but are weather cracked and need to be replaced. The wheels are really ugly but functional. There is no rear bumper.
Almost all the parts have come from Summit Racing or Mac's Auto parts. Mac's Auto Parts specializes in old Ford parts. I have receipts for almost everything I've purchased.
I've tried to describe the car as best I can but I'm sure I've forgotten. If you have any questions please ask. More pictures will be added shortly.
I have over $14,500 in the car and parts without my labor. $9,500 will buy it.
