Description
For reluctant but genuine sale is my beloved ute. This is a very rare, unique utility. Read on.
It's a BA Ford Falcon. Not just a ute, this is the RTV model. It was only produced for a few years by Ford Australia as an additional model in the range. Anyone who has anything to do with them can't work out why they were deleted
Most distinctive about the RTV is the raised suspension for a lot of extra underbody clearance.
Laugh at all the boy racers in their lowered show ponies crawling over drains and speedhumps.
The track is also significantly wider than a standard ute.
Tyres are 215/65/16, rather than the 60 profile on a standard ute.
What you don't see is the electronically lockable diff. A button on the dash locks the read diff completely. In an ordinary "open" diff if one rear wheel loses traction, the other wheel doesn't drive either. Lock this diff, and the wheel with traction will always turn. Greasy building sites, bush tracks, gravel - whenever the surface provides slip, you can still get drive.
This isn't just a Ford rear end either, it is produced by Dana - legendary tough auto gear manufacturers.
Don't think you can just lift an ordinary ute and whack in a diff locker (if you could actually find one for a Ford). Many many components are unique to the RTV, as well as locations of different items. Underbody guards, wheel arch flares, brake lines, all sorts of stuff.
4.0 litre DOHC Variable Cam Timing petrol engine, runs on 91 RON E10. Heaps of power, pretty good economy. I use an accurately measured 13.9 litres /100km around town.
They were built only to XL ute standard, but my RTV has a few tricks up it's sleeve.
Factory standard 3 SEATER ute. It's a column shift 4 speed BTR tranmission. Very handy and flexible - you can seat an extra person (for short distances) in the safety of a full inertia reel lap-sash seatbelt or have an arm rest/cupholder,storage box in the middle.
1600 kg capacity towbar. I've only towed a small fibreglass boat, about 3 times.
Full one tonne payload.
One tonne rated alloy wheels - 5 of them. The spare is untouched.
Original wheel change kit with the correct RTV jack and wheel chock.
Vinyl floor mat, which I have always covered with heavy rubber mats front AND back.
I've made a few upgrades.
I fixed the infamous BA brake shudder with slotted and cross drilled, vented brake rotors on the front with good semi-metallic pads. No fade, no shudder. New pads on the rear.
Perforated leather XR steering wheel. A bit thinner than standard, gives much better feel and control.
Full length steel builders racks. Carry loads up to the full length of the ute. The front rack is removable. It is mounted to a unique ->
TJM polished airbag compliant bullbar. These are now unobtainable from TJM. It sits in front of the original bumper. I've only tested it on an unfortunately short sighted cockatoo. No damage to bar or ute, and it was much better than getting the bird through the radiator, lights or windscreen.
Auxiliary inputs have been wired in to the sound system. One uses a 30 pin Apple connector to charge as well as tap the audio.
Headlight protectors!
You may have worked out I am passionate about this vehicle. I have pampered it from the day I got it. Weekly washing, full length rinsing top and under whenever I go somewhere to launch my kayak.
Having said that, it is a work vehicle. I make my living from it, as did the two previous owners, and it's not perfect.
Previously it was owned by farmers. There are paint blemishes - scratches, scrapes, small dings in a few spots from bushes, cows and dogs. The last photo shows the driver's door. It looks worse than it is,
The engine doesn't leak fluids.
The power steering hose weeps (a common Ford thing). Replacement is $20-$60, or you can get a non-weeping aftermarket upgrade for about $120.
It's 10 years old, so the headlining has started to sag. I don't notice it much anymore, but it does bug me. I was quoted $300 to replace it at a good motor trimmer, or $15 for a roll of duct tape.
The drivers seat door side bolster was a bit frayed last time I looked at it, I put a good quality seat cover on ages ago and haven't looked at it. You can have the seat cover.
Worst is the short rego. I can and will supply a current pink slip, but the rest is up to you. Sorry, but I can't afford to put even 6 months on it.
Why sell a car I love? Life has moved on. I bought it originally for a house renovation which is now finished. I now need a back seat and covered load area more than I need to carry other people's rubbish to the tip.
The kayak and UHF radio in some photos do NOT come with the ute, unless you want to make an insane offer.
It is for genuine sale. I expect you to be a genuine buyer. Be aware that the starting bid is the reserve, so any bid has the potential to win. If you need to check with your wife boss mate dog horse financier mechanic before buying then don't bid without permission. Inspections are fine.
I will consider offers until there is a bid. Someone bids, the auction runs so everything is fair for everyone.
Payment and pickup to be completed within 7 days of the end of the auction. Prefer bank direct deposit.
Car can be viewed at North Parramatta or Drummoyne by appointment.
