Description
1971 XY panel van . I imported this car from NZ as a project for the road due toa death in the family and downsizing house I have to part with some toys. I dont really want to sell the van but it needs to be loved and put on the road again !! Originally like most it was a 6 cylinder three on the tree van and has spent its whole life in NZ. It was fitted with the 2 bbl 302 Cleveland and single rail gearbox and regod over there, it also has power steering so it appears to me that motor, box and p/s may be from an XA or XB origionally.
I have run and let the van idle periodically for an hour and a half and it has an even exhaust note on both pipes (no missing or indication of valve issues) and it does not build up any "blue smoke"from exhaust so I would think that valves and stem seals are fine. Removing the PCV there is NO blowby (not even enough to move a piece of paper held over the hole in rocker cover) there are no oil fumes from rocker cover either. So overall I think the motor is a pretty good one, not bad for idling for an hour and a half.
The gearbox is a single rail (not exactly a toploader) and the van has power discs. The body is fair for a daily driver but a perfectionist would find work needed here. a little previous evidence of the usual rust in the gutters but very easily fixed. It does not show any rust in the dreaded windscreen A pillar areas. More photos can be provided if needed and I am going to do and audio of the motor and exhaust soon. The exhaust system is not very old and exits behind the rear wheels.
The winning bidder past the reserve (which I think is reasonable considering my cost of purchase, truck transport NZ, importing and duties etc cleaning, customs and AUS transport) will also get any spares I have including an origonal GT dashboard I had in my first van in 1970s as well a set of 12 slotter chrome and a set of period "kidney" alloys, spare fuel tanks to do drivers side 2nd tank set up, a spare bonnet and tailgate and wheel trims, and anything else I can find.
I will be advertising in unique cars etc if it does not sell on ebay. The car is in Coffs Harbour and I can drive it to a transport pick up locally..BUT it would be better to pick up on trailer as car transporters do not allow goods in vehicle.
Any questions contact first through ebay messages ph Kevin on 0404 566153
