Full size photos1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible. Extremely rare factory produced "R" code 427ci dual quad, factory 4 speed model. 1 of just 411 produced for the model year.This original and un-restored Galaxie was a 1 owner car up until 2017 and stored under a cover from 1970-2005 and has just 49919 original miles on the odometer. Sold new in Ligonier, PA spending its first 54 years there with its original owner. It has since resided in a private North Carolina collection from 2018 until recently.
It still retains its factory original 427ci engine (new gaskets and belts installed), 4 speed transmission and 3.50 gear rear end. It runs and drives excellent and has plenty of "get up and go!" and is a pleasure to drive.It is a very well sorted out car and everything works including the radio, backup lights and even the clock! The original owner took great pride in preserving this car and it shows. It has been collector maintained after the original owners ownership and kept in excellent original condition. I'm not an expert on original paint but from what I can tell and what a few other knowledgeable body guys have told me that have looked at the car all say it appears to retain most of its original paint except for the driver side fender and a small spot on the passenger side fender by the headlight and a few touch ups along the bottom with a brush where it had a couple of scrapes or bruises. The trim and chrome all show extremely well, the interior is original and shows great, the top is also excellent with just some minor wear on the side welting the back window is clear and the top fits very well. The underside of the car is original and has never been cleaned so it has your typical grime and surface crust like any original car would have it is however very solid and presents well as it should.This is an un-restored survivor type car so it does show some wear and tear but over all presents extremely well. As they say they are only original once!This Galaxie has to be one of the better original well kept examples of and authentic "R" to exist.The 427 Dual Quad high performance engine was the top of the line highest horsepower offered by Ford and then to top it off with the convertible option it just doesn't get much better.
