BODYWORK/TRIM
This clean custom's solid Brookville Roadster body began life as high quality steel that was worked into a lean, long and low profile. As you can probably tell, that process included a lot more than simple sanding and filling, as the car's taut fuselage was stretched over a custom frame with the help of careful channeling. When you want to paint a vintage Ford hot rod, it's best to go with vintage Ford pigment, like this roadster's 1948 Monsoon Maroon 2-stage. Finishing touches took the form of Ford Twolite headlamps, a simple tag bracket, blue-dot taillights and a body-matched window frame. Built in the summer of 2013
ENGINE
276 cubic inches of Ford 59A flathead 200 horsepower, An NOS short block that still wore factory tags prior to its inclusion in the build, that stalwart powerplant maintains rock-solid reliability in literally every season. On top of the timeless mill, mesh-covered Stromberg 97s jam steady wind and fuel in to a Navarro high compression intake. That intake perfectly complements Navarro high compression heads, which cap .125 overbored cylinders. an Isky 400 Jr. cam and a 4-inch Merc crank. At the sides of the block, monochromatic block hugger headers feed straight-out pipes . At the front of the block, a dressed generator shades a traditional distributor, which sequences fire through chrome-cased Flathead Jack plug wires. In front of those cables, a beefy radiator, complete with dual electric puller fans, funnels water through polished stainless tubes. And everything, from the car's finned coil cover and chrome dipstick to its glass fuel bowl and Hildebrandt oil filter.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
In keeping with its 'custom but functional' theme, this first class Ford rides a custom, fully reinforced chassis that's stanced out of 2x4 rectangular tubing. A tough T5 5-speed, which twists a Ford 9-inch axle around fresh 3.43 gears. At the head of those heavy duty components, a drilled I-beam axle provides four inches of drop. Opposite that roller, fresh QA-1 coil-overs plant the car's exceptionally light rear-half. That suspension counters the engine's grunt with a combination of 11 and 12-inch drums. And all that hardware rolls on matte-finished steelies, which lap 6.00-16 Coker around stylized trim rings and polished Ford center caps.
INTERIOR
Take a look inside this custom interior. At the center of the cockpit, leather-trimmed bomber seats wrap the driver and one passenger in nostalgic authenticity. In front of those seats, a body-matched dash hangs crisp Stewart Warner telemetry behind an Auburn-style, engine-turned instrument panel. Below that dash, piped wool carpet floats a polished Hurst shifter amid billet foot pedals and custom kick panels. At the sides of that carpet, padded leather doors frame trick poppers. In front of the driver, a polished Bell steering wheel spins a leather-wrapped rim. And behind the passengers, a small trunk anchors a modern battery in front of a sizable fuel tank.
