Description

Be aware that this car is was a 1969 big block Mustang Mach 1 but is now a restomod. Many of the good parts were missing when it was rescued from the desert of Arizona in 2004 so certain liberties were taken to build a boss 429 tribute with unique features. Exterior wise the car is grabber blue (a color not introduced until 1970). A Boss 429 scoop has been mounted to the hood and it is black like on a 1970. The rear tail panel is blacked out like on Boss 302's. A set of 1970 twist hood locks are installed as well as chrome bullet mirrors. The Mustang emblems on the grille, and sail panels have been removed to smooth things out. The chrome trim under the doors is also shaved. The rear quarter turn signals were removed and replaced by discrete LED's on the pinch weld. The car has classic white letter Indy 500 tires mounted on Magnum 500 chrome and black wheels. The major changes are the installation of a tubular A-arm front suspension to accommodate a much wider 1999 4.6 Liter double overhead cam aluminum crate engine with a cobra intake manifold. The transmission is late model 4R70W four speed automatic. The front suspension has adjustable coil overs, power steering, 2 inch drop spindles, and disk brakes. The steering is a Ididit tilting column with wood rimmed wheel with the steering routed around chrome shorty headers. There are no cat converters and the exhaust is custom bent 2.5 inch aluminized steel aft of the BBK crossover pipe. The Flowmasters are quiet at idle but do get loud when the go pedal is pushed. The fuel tank is a custom fuel cell with built in high pressure cobra fuel pump needed to run this premium fuel engine. A new custom driveshaft runs to the rebuilt or 9 inch rear end with a positraction unit and new 3.5:1 ratio gears stopping with large drum brakes. The rear leaf springs are the racing drop eye which lowers the rear about 2 inches. The electronics all run to the trunk where a reprogrammed 2004 Mach 1 computer resides hidden behind the driver side wheel well. On the opposite side, the battery is a new red top Optima with a external cutoff switch. The seats are from a 2004 Mach 1 except the rear seat has ben recut to fit the original fold down seat with a trap door to the trunk. The instrumentation is all digital from Dakota Digital including the clock. The radio is Retro Sound. With the key off everything looks pretty stock with the T floor shifter. turn the key and the blue digits come on behind the blacked out glass. There is an aftermarket removable console with storage and cups for 2 drinks. The engine starts with the old Ford key right there in the dash. The AC has been rebuilt but the late model compressor and condenser have not been installed. All of the AC parts are available to go with the car. The car has been debugged in the approximately 1000 miles since completion and has won its share of show trophies.
