Description
This is your chance to own a limited Edition signature Mustang
In 2007, Steve Saleen teamed up with Trans Am racing legend Parnelli Jones to create a special edition Mustang that’s commonly known as the Saleen/Parnelli Jones S302. It was developed to honor Jones’s racing legacy and was inspired by the Grabber Orange ’70 Boss 302 race car he drove in the hard-fought SCCA series. More than an appearance package, Saleen built a 302-cubic-inch version of the 281-cubic-inch three-valve modular V-8 engine that powered standard Mustang GT models.
Only 500 Parnelli Jones models were built.
PARNELLI JONES EDITION S302 DETAILSIn addition to the unique 5.0-liter engine, which is based on a bored and stroked version of the Mustang GT’s 4.6-liter all-aluminum, overhead-cam V-8, the Parnelli Jones package included a unique short-throw shifter, 3.73 gears, a 2.5-inch performance exhaust system and enhanced suspension and braking systems on the performance side. Visually, it emulated the 1970 Boss 302, with a shaker hood scoop, flat black hood accents, body side stripes (carefully calling out “302,” but not including the word “Boss”), replica versions of the Mini-lite racing wheels, a retro rear spoiler, special side skirts and more. All were painted Grabber Orange. Inside, Grabber Orange inserts were added to the black leather seats, while the dashboard was signed by Steve Saleen and Parnelli Jones.
POWERTRAINThe engine and transmission are unmodified from the Parnelli Jones Edition specifications, but that standard spec offers a significant upgrade over the Mustang GT’s 4.6-liter V-8, which was bored and stroked to 5.0 liters of displacement. Supporting upgrades include a forged steel crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons, forged connecting rods, ported cylinder heads and unique camshafts. It was rated by Saleen at 400 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The seller reports the engine starts and runs normally, with no known leaks. It is connected via a lightweight aluminum flywheel to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission that shifts normally and is also leak free. Final drive comes via a 3.73:1-geared limited-slip differential.
