- THE BASICS:
I am selling my ProCharged 2016 Ford Mustang GT with a 6 speed manual transmission and approximately 39,xxx miles. This car is in excellent cosmetic and running condition. It has never been in a collision and has a clean title and CarFax. It has the Performance Package, Premium Package and Red/Black Trim. It has the factory premium 8" Infotainment System w/Apple Car Play. 2018+ digital gauge cluster installed. Carbon fiber digital steering wheel with RPM LED's and gauges. This car was last Dyno’d at 752 RWHP and 575 Torque on E85 at 17 PSI in August 2020 (YouTube videos below).
*I have the title to the vehicle in my possession.
- THE STORY:
I purchased this car with approximately 11,000 miles on it in June of 2018 from the original owner. He was a middle aged male that purchased the car to drive on the weekends, but never drove it as much as he wanted. I had been searching and waiting for a black S550 Mustang with a Gen 2 Coyote engine, 6 speed manual transmission and black/red interior for months and this one finally showed up on Craigslist. I contacted the owner and purchased the car the same day.
This car gave me the same thrills as my 2004 SVT Cobra I had years ago, but as the months went on the desire for more power grew. I spent countless hours researching the S550 platform, exploring the vast amount of available modifications and reading reviews. No cheap parts were put on this car. While some parts may not be the most expensive option available; results, reliability and customer reviews were regarded as the most important factors when purchasing a new part or modification for this car.
The car was originally built to be a show car, but that vision later morphed into a vehicle focused on track/strip duty (Yes, it can still be driven on the street). I was able to take the car to 1 track day at Thunderhill Raceway Park where it performed like a champ after some suspension and tire pressure tweaks. Temperatures never exceeded 220 degrees F. 750 RWHP is a lot of car on this race track, but its power, braking and cornering capabilities were impressive.
I contracted Covid and suffered a Cerebellar Stroke in November of 2020 which made it difficult for me to enjoy the car like it should be enjoyed. It sucks to let go of this car sooner than I expected, but I would like to see it go to an owner who will give it the care it deserves and reap the smiles and Jello Legs it gives you when you let it show you what it can do. (If you don’t know what Jello Legs are then you have no business owning this car yet. Seriously.)
- THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM:
This is a high performance vehicle. It was built for that purpose and it was driven that way…at times. While one may think a car like this likely had the shit kicked out of it every time it left the garage, they would be wrong. Thousands of dollars of my own hard earned money and countless hours of labor went into making this car what it is today. This large of a time and capital investment cultivates a deep respect. I never abused this car, I enjoyed it and looking back on it I wish I would have taken the time to enjoy it more along the way.
- THE PERFORMANCE:
The supercharger installed on the vehicle is a Procharger D1X. It is a centrifugal supercharger, which is essentially a belt driven turbo. I chose this supercharger due to its clean, consistent power curve, low maintenance, low charge temperatures, and low engine wear. The ProCharger also provides a much different power delivery than a typical roots or twin screw supercharger. Instead of fading off at the high end of the RPM range, the acceleration is unrelenting; achieving peak horsepower at peak RPM. Due to the fact that the car is only in boost when you want it to be (Unlike a roots or twin screw) there is significantly reduced engine wear. The car is essentially stock…until you don’t want it to be. The head unit gears were upgraded to helical gears which make for a smooth whistle similar to that of an idling fighter jet. Also, the Procharger is a standalone system and runs off its own belt and pulley drive system. If the supercharger belt fails while driving or you wish to drive the car without the ProCharger functioning, the car will still operate as normal, just without boost. No fuel remapping or retuning is required.
This car was built with lots of room to grow in terms of performance. It should be noted that the D1X Procharger in this car is basically at its lowest setting. A new owner who wishes to take this car to the next level would only need to purchase a smaller supercharger pulley and a new tune which would unlock well over 1000 RWHP in its current configuration. Although, it’s highly recommend to beef up engine internals at that HP range. I chose to keep the car at 750 RWHP for longevity and traction purposes.
With that being said, The Generation 2 Coyote engine (Years 2015-17) is a tank and one of the most sought after engines for high compression supercharged applications. The weakest parts of this engine are the oil pump gears, crankshaft sprocket, and cylinder walls. However, the cylinder walls only become an issue after 30PSI of boost (Max boost this car has ever run is 17lbs and it is currently capped at 17lbs via 7200 RPM limiter). The stock powdered metal oil pump gears and crankshaft sprocket were replaced with solid billet aluminum and the stock head studs and head gaskets were replaced with ARP Head studs and Cometic MLX Head Gaskets (94mm Bore, .051). This was done to slightly lower compression and lock down the heads.
The fuel system was upgraded to a Fore Innovations Level 4 fuel system routed in parallel. This is a return style fuel system and is full E85 compatible. This system is used no differently than a factory fuel system and still retains all factory safety shutoffs. This was done to increase fuel delivery to meet the new demand, prevent corrosion and increase engine longevity. E85 is a much cooler burning fuel due to its ethanol content and has an octane rating of 100-105. This octane rating is a MUST in high compression supercharged applications to reduce or eliminate detonation during boost since detonation is what kills engines.
Aside from the crankshaft being forged in all Coyote engines, there is not a forged rotating assembly in this car. This car still has the original engine, transmission, clutch, driveline, differential and half shafts. These parts are all still in great working condition and I feel this to be a testament as to how the car has been driven and taken care of. I have no problem with having a pre-purchase inspection done on the vehicle, however the cost of this inspection will be incurred by the buyer, not the seller.
- FULL DISCLOSURE:
• While I realize everyone has their own preferences in terms of modifications and these different preferences will affect their valuation of the car, this car is meant to be passed on to a specific owner who will appreciate it in its current high performance form. This car has over 40K in modifications, some of which are permanent, such as the removal of the factory fuel system. Due to this fact, the car will not be parted out before sale and is being sold as is. I have an itemized list of these modifications, including where I purchased them and how much they cost, in an Excel Spreadsheet I can send to any prospective buyers.
• The tire setup currently on the vehicle will likely need to be replaced before driving the vehicle in wet weather. The tires will not be replaced prior to purchase as this is driver preference in high performance vehicles.
• This vehicle is currently in the off-road configuration meaning it does not have catalytic converters installed. I have the factory catalytic converters in my possession and they will be passed on to the next owner. Smog related conversations will be had in person before sale.
• There are 5-point harnesses installed in both the driver and passenger seats and their install meets SFI standards. The factory driver and passenger seatbelts and receivers are still in place. The rear seats and seatbelt assemblies have been removed and are in my possession and will be passed on to the next owner.
• The factory driver and passenger seats were replaced with Braum Alpha-X Racing seats. These seats are not heated, cooled or electric. The passenger occupancy sensor and both seat belt receivers were removed from the factory seats and relocated to the Braum seats. I no longer have the factory seats.
- FAQ'S (This will be updated based on common questions received):
• Can this Mustang be daily driven?
This Mustang can absolutely can be plated and driven on the street like a normal car. Daily driving it would make you best friends with your local gas attendants but it’s definitely doable. Most of the miles on the car are freeway miles from driving to the Roseville area and back multiple times a month and weekend cruises. I was never hassled by Law Enforcement because I wasn't a dumbass. If I can do it here in CA, you can do it anywhere on Earth.
• How fast is it?
The fastest I have taken the car was around 155-165 mph, but it will go much faster than that. It gets there astonishingly fast and that was enough for me. The factory speed limiter has been coded off and it still has a lot of room to go as far as RPM. Top speed will be limited by the diff gearing right now, not power.
• What is the gas mileage?
This question is rather erroneous in my opinion, but it obviously depends on your driving style. The car still retains the factory 16 gallon fuel tank. E85 will get you approximately 150 miles to a tank on the freeway (Averaged 10 MPG), because it burns faster. 91 (highest available octane we have in CA) will get you approximately 350 miles to a tank on the freeway (Averaged 23+ MPG). City mileage is a toss up. Again these are based on my mostly conservative driving style; apply the numbers to your own driving style and keep in mind the car uses the same amount of gas as an unmodified car under the same conditions when not in boost.
• Does the car have factory navigation?
No, but, the car has Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The APIM module was upgraded during the digital dash install for better audio and the new module does not have factory navigation. There is full navigation and voice control via the steering wheel with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Which is my opinion is way better anyway and the only way I used navigation in the car.
• Has the car ever had any issues?
Due to low mileage, obsessive maintenance and constant upgrades; parts on this car were either upgraded for performance or replaced well before they failed. A diagnostic was performed via the nGauge in the car nearly every time it was being warmed up before being taken for a drive. This was done for my peace of mind I guess and led to the early detection of any issues…which were basically non existent.
• Are there any cosmetic defects?
Although the car is a 2016, it is in excellent interior and exterior cosmetic condition. It was either kept garaged or under a $500 Covercraft WeatherShield HP car cover. That being said, it has highway miles and does have a few very minor and common knicks on the front bumper. The hood is aftermarket and has some very light cracking on two of the corners. These cosmetic defects have to be looked for to be noticed and I felt they were not significant enough to waste limited photo space on them. If you would like to see them up close, contact me and I will send you a photo.
- MAINTENANCE:
• All maintenance and modifications on the vehicle were performed by me and one trusted engine builder, therefore I have minimal service records. I know when I do the work on my cars it is done right the first time and with care. Factory manuals are used and all torque specs are maintained.
• Engine Oil was changed approximately every 4 months and AMS Oil 5w50 was the only oil used in the vehicle after the supercharger upgrade in October of 2019.
• ProCharger oil was replaced every 6 months.
• Transmission and differential fluid were replaced in May of 2020. This was done for smoother shifting and alongside the short throw shifter install.
• Brakes and Brake Fluid were replaced in May of 2021. Hawk Performance Ceramics brake pads and Castrol SRF Racing brake fluid were installed in all 4 calipers.
• All other fluids were replaced according to factory recommendations.
