Description
1971 Mustang Mach 1. Driver quality. Will need restoration to be show quality. Interior is still original, old and worn, and will need attention. Older repaint. Passenger side quarter panel and lower side of driver quarter panel has been replaced; it appears to be done by a professional. Car was purchased from the original owner's family. Has original window sticker. Engine, transmission, and rear are believed to be the original that the car was born with. Per the original owner's diary, the Magnum 500 rims were added by the original dealer (Koons Ford). The VIN number and door tag are broken down in the following manner:
10/70 - Production Date
1= 1971
T= Metuchen, New Jersey
05= Fastback Mach 1
M= 351 4V Windsor 285 HP (before May of 1971)
Body - 63R - Fastback, Standard Interior, Bucket Seats, Mach 1
Color - 3 - Bright Red
Trim - 5A - Black Knitted Vinyl
Axle - 6 - 3.00:1 Open
Trans - 4 - C6 Automatic
DSO - 17- Washington
Owner kept a complete diary of the car, from the time he purchased it new from Koons Ford in Falls Church, Virginia until the time he rebuilt the engine at 203,500. At some point, the owner cut holes in the air cleaner base. The original carburetor has been changed with a Holley four barrel unit. Car runs and idles fine, however it does have a hesitation (carburetor probably needs rebuilt due to fuel). The power steering pump is noisy and the car has its normal leaks like you would expect for one this age.
Owner's family gave use receipts for $2700 worth of maintenance repair that was performed in 2012/2013. For example: Replaced fuel pump, replaced fuel tank sender float, filter, and O ring, replaced two rear wheel cylinders, replaced all belts, replaced front brake hoses, idler arm, two upper ball joints and two lower ball joints, checked engine compression on each cylinder (this averaged 175 pounds) etc.
