Description
Up for auction is a 100% original 1986 Mustang GT
Convertible with 50,280original. The car
has original paint, interior, carpet, stereo and on and on. Fox Body GTs that
have not been modified, abused or beat into submission are getting harder and
harder to find. This adult owned GT is
truly a find!
The GT Sold new at O’Meara Ford in Loveland, Colorado and remained in Colorado until 2008. It then moved 60 miles north to Cheyenne, Wyoming. I purchased the car in December of 2020 and brought it back to Colorado (The California blue plates shown in the pictures were put on for a recent Cars and Coffee I attended).
I do have a Carfax on the car. The Carfax does not show any records on this car until 2008 when it was sold and moved to Wyoming. According to the gentleman I purchased the car from when the car was registered (in Wyoming) the DMV incorrectly entered the mileage as 135,000 instead of the correct 35,000. After driving the car and inspecting the normal wear spots for these cars (I have had at least 10 fox body Mustangs and know their weak points) I was comfortable that the 50,000 miles currently showing on the odometer were correct. Typical wear points are brake pedal pad, drivers seat bolster, dash pad at speaker grill, console lid, steering wheel, Marchal fog light covers and carpet – All are like new. Drivability, it drives like a new car. I took the car on a Saturday drive yesterday and was reminded just how nice it is. I have limited paperwork on the car but do have two repair tickets that show mileage in November of 2009 at 39,739 and then in June of 2010 at 41388.
Moving to the paint and body on this GT, both are original and nice. Some very minor dings, scratches and blemishes that can be expected for a 35-year-old car. The Mustang is absolutely rust free and shows no signs of ever being exposed to Colorado or Wyoming winters. You will notice some touch up work on the smoke gray portion of the bumpers – The paint on the rest of the bumper trim is so nice I elected not to repaint them. The decals are new (high quality Phoenix Graphics - I replaced them due to the typical cracking that occurs on the hood decal).
As for the interior, it is very, very nice! Dash has zero cracks door panels are near perfect carpet is good console and console lid are nice and seats are very nice. Both front seats have minor fading on the upper outside edges. The previous owner explained this was from sun exposure when the car was stowed away in his garage. The door pockets are sagging a bit (see photos) but nothing to drastic.
The convertible top is original and in fair to good shape there are four wear spots (typical wear at the corners by the rear quarter glass and two small spots behind the driver’s side quarter window). The piping around the entire top shows the most wear. It is cracked and loose in several areas and missing altogether in others. If the top was put up and down frequently I would estimate it would need replaced within the year. Convertible boot is like new and includes the original case. Trunk is very, very clean. The car could us new outer window seals on both front door glass as they are brittle and cracked.
Mechanically the car is sound. Runs smoothly, shifts nice and drives perfectly. Cruise works, Marchal fog lights with covers are still on the car and work, original AM/FM cass. is still in the car, volume control has the typical crackle when adjusting volume levels – I have been spraying it with electrical parts cleaner and that is helping. All windows operate correctly as do lights fan controls etc. The A/C is operational but is in need of a recharge. The car does have a slight oil drip which I believe is coming from the valve cover gaskets. Tires are like new.
If you have been searching for an 85/86 Fox body you know how tough they are to find. This is a very special, very original car that you just don’t find anymore. Included with the car is the original owner’s manual, and original keys.
The car is not perfect but it is nice and unbelievably original. The following are items I am aware the car will need;
1) A/C charging
2) outer lower window seal on both driver’s doors
3) perhaps valve cover gaskets
I believe that is it.
Don’t miss your opportunity to own this very original low mileage, unmolested 1986 Mustang GT. You just do not see them like this one any longer.
