Description
BIDDER ADVISORY, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION: This vehicle is located in Volcano, Hawaii. I will be happy to help ship it to your location by getting it to Hilo or Kona portside for you free of charge and prep it for the trip! However, you pay shipping to your location or pick up at destination port of your choice. Car will drive from LA to NYC with no issues, I drove it from Oregon to Long Beach, it was a pleasure to cruise in. Car has been very well maintained. Be very aware that if you buy this car, have it shipped to your location, then decide you don't want it, you will have to pay to ship it back to me here in Hawaii. That's going to be over $2k and a whole lotta trouble to wind up with no car! Therefore, I strongly urge you to be sure about buying the vehicle before you bid. I will be more than happy to answer any questions.
RESERVE is set low, vehicle needs to move. Bought a new house and new truck and don't have the space to store my baby anymore.
SAME CAR AS LISTED LAST MONTH, HAVE NO CONTROL OVER NON-PAYING, NON-RESPONDING SCUMBAGS NAMED CHAD DACUS. But I did block him as a bidder.
Buy-It-Now is accurate, car is for real, someone really has a chance to score on this deal. My focus in life is simply not on this car any more. You're going to spend about $1k to ship this to the mainlandso I have to cut you a break on the up-front price and we both know it.
The GOOD:
1984 Ford Mustang GT 350, white car with red interior. Sunroof. Rebuilt 302/5.0 with 5-speed manual transmission and Traction-Loc differential. Believe the rear is a 3.55, I measured it once but forgot what it was--factory was 3.08 but believe me, it is NOT that. Car launches too well.
Paint is good condition, interior is in excellent condition with a cover over the dash. Has the usual sun-cracking of the dash under the windshield.
Engine is rebuilt and cammed, I did not do it personally but know this to be true by its idle and performance. Currently set up with a manual choke, starts and runs like a dream. Cruises well, passes well, steers great, stops even better--car is Hawaii tagged, inspected, and street legal. Vehicle is ready to drive cross-country.
Wheel center hubs are painted, spare is a matching full-size rim with matching tire as well.
New, painted water pump, personally installed. Thermostat as well.
The BAD:
Missing rear cargo cover with roller.
Tiny rust dots appearing in a few locations due to Hawaii climate--a big part of the reason for selling is that this car is NOT meant to live in rainforest, she needs a new home--but car is NOT rusted out, chassis and body panels are strong and whole, so is the underside. Pretty tedious but simple fix.
Barest hint of smoke on startup, and I mean barest. NO engine noise, NO weird vibrations, believe valve seals are just a bit worn because the compression and pick-up of the engine are fantastic.
NO A/C. Came without a compressor and rebuilt more for performance anyways.
Minor cosmetic details that keep the car from being considered perfect. A few parking lot door dings, engine could use a good cleaning.
The UGLY:
Correct rear brake junction/line was not available, so the replacement on the rear axle works great and functions perfectly, but isn't pretty. Parts are hard to get in Hawaiianother reason to sell her off.
Rubber is pretty good overall, a few spots are meh.
True mileage = ??. Engine rebuild mileage = ??. Odometer reads 23,123 at this moment on Nov. 24, 2021, no idea if that is 123,123 (most likely) or 223,123 (I doubt it given the car's condition).
PAPERWORK:
Zero title issues. Whatever "problem" there is exists ONLY with the online title report in the mind of the computer algorithm. Title is CLEAN, CLEAR, IN-HAND, ready to transfer, SEE PICTURES. Title search lists 6 owners, keep in mind it is really 5 because I ditched my ex in a divorce and had the title changed to my name alone. You can see her name on the old registration. SEE PICTURES. This is yet another reason to sell this car---reminds me of my ex and yeah no thanks.
Car passed safety inspection but was failed due to no registration. SEE PICTURES. Could not register at DMV kiosk because its program said "this car is not current safety inspected". So now car will get a safety inspection once I am able to register it, which I will do as soon as the inspection that was done on Thanksgiving propagates through the DMV system and allows it. BOTTOM LINE: Car will be safety inspected and current registered before sale, probably as soon as Monday, 11/29/21.
Car is current insured. SEE PICTURES. Car driven to Hilo 11/25/21 and back to Volcano, ran perfect, zero issues. Car driven to Pahala/Naalehu/Waiohinu 11/26/21 and back to Volcano, ran perfect, zero issues. Blew past the slow-ass tourists like they were in reverse.
REPAIR RECORDS:
Car has three new and new-ish tires. She has 225/60R15's all the way around, I have receipts showing three of the to be NEW/NEW-ish. SEE PICTURES. One was replaced from a metal shard in the sidewall about a year ago, the second was a nail, tire was repaired but kept slow leaking so new tire bought. Third is a brand-new tire mounted on a full-sized, MATCHING spare wheel in the trunk. The other two tires have good tread and are in nice shape.
Master cylinder blew out on a hill in Ocean View last year, replaced it myself, SEE RECEIPT PICTURES. While I was at it, I replaced both the rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and rear brake lines, including the rear junction block/body line. SEE RECEIPT PICTURES.
Water pump blew out on road back from Magics early this year, replaced it myself, SEE RECEIPT PICTURES. While I was at it, I replaced the thermostat and both gaskets. I was an instrumental chemist for Novartis and have a PhD in chemistry from Purdue, so I think you can trust my workmanship. Car barely gets above "C" on the temperature gauge.
I didn't keep the receipts for the oil changes and oil filters, but I've done those religiously every 6 months because the car doesn't make 5k miles in that time. Last oil AND filter change was July 2021, at about 20k miles on the odometer.
Car driven to Pahala 11/26/21 power-washed, vacuumed, cleaned, and everything tested (see pictures, car cruises at 65 mph with ease all day long).
CRUISE CONTROL -- working.
POWER STEERING -- working.
CIGAR LIGHTER -- working (tested with cell phone charger, no lighter element)
POWER BRAKES -- working
WINDSHIELD WASHER -- working
POWER WINDOWS -- working
NO A/C, not even a compressor under the hood, see pictures.
TILT STEERING -- working
SIGNAL LIGHTS -- working
HEADLIGHTS -- all working, high and low beams
TAILLIGHTS -- working
REVERSE LIGHTS -- working
HORN -- working
WIPERS -- working, all settings, all speeds, delay works too
WIPER BLADES -- working, new, clean glass well
BRAKES -- working, stops car hard
AMMETER -- working
GAS GAUGE -- working
TEMP GAUGE -- working
DIGITAL CLOCK -- working, settable, keeps good time/date
BATTERY -- working, excellent condition
HAZARDS -- working
FOG LAMPS -- NOT working. They are on the car, they have the factory covers, the switch moves, the "ON" LED lights up, but neither of them come on. Unlikely both are burnt out, but possible. I suspect the grounds, because those were the issues when I was fixing the fog lamps on an '86 Mustang in 2018.
MANUAL CHOKE -- working well
HATCH SHOCKS -- working. Both replaced in 2020. Stiff and holds hatch up.
SPARE -- working, full size, matching, new tire, holding air well.
GLASS -- working. no cracks or chips anywhere, 100% inspected for both
SEATS -- working. both slide forward/back, both flip forward for access to back seat. Passenger seat has a short sun-melted blue crayon fragment down in the seam, nearly invisible. IT ANNOYS ME GREATLY.
DOME LIGHT -- working
DASH LIGHTS -- working
REAR DEFROSTER -- working
HEATER/FAN -- working (well)
CARPET -- great shape, fresh vacuumed. Unknown hardened light purple substance, small patches in a few spots in the trunk, almost seems like melted wax from a wine bottle or crayon?
GLOVE DOOR -- working, can be opened/closed/locked
CONSOLE -- working, opens/closes, has custom removable foam drink holder inserted
AM/FM/CASSETTE -- working well, cassette not tested due to lack of cassette
TRANSMISSION: Working well. Shifts easily, no noises in any gear.
PARKING BRAKE: Tightened in 2020 by me, holds car hard.
ENGINE: Starts, idles, and runs near perfection when manual choke is used on cold mornings, do not need most of the time here in Hawaii. 5.0L 302 H.O. V-8, 4V carburetor, SECOND-TO-LAST YEAR OF carburetion! Purrs on the highway, no troubles passing anyone, anywhere. Engine was rebuilt at some point in the past before I got it, was told (and car acts like) it has a mild cam and aftermarket rear gear ratio. Aftermarket headers, sounds awesome. Water pump and thermostat changed by me--see pictures. Never a problem starting, never a problem running, I hate to sell the car just on that basis.
RADIATOR -- full and stays full
WASHER RESERVOIR -- working, full, refillable
WHEELS/TIRES --working. 3/5 are new/newish. All hold air, all in good shape.
UNDERBODY --clean and unrusted. NO RUST. Car body underneath is solid! No holes, no rot, no boo-boos. SEE PICTURE! Ran out of pictures, but included the one underneath shot as a representative of how clean the underside of this car is. Side rails are rock solid, have been used to jack up car with no issues.
BODY/PAINT -- Paint has its share of chips, undercoat is black. Unavoidable and slight differences in color between the metal panels and the plastic body pieces. Two parking lot dings on DS door (people suck). Rear Ford trunk emblem was weathered, separated and blew off during power wash, now included in the extras box. NO ACCIDENTS, NO BONDO, solid and clean car, easy resto or weekend cruiser. Needs a fair amount of TLC, patience, and a razor blade for much of the road grime/spots/boogers/whats-its below the beltline.
SLIGHT SURFACE RUST is beginning to develop due to the tropical sun and endless humidity. I am not Ok watching the car rot away in the Volcano jungle, yet another reason to sell her. Tope edge of hatch, a few spots on body from existing nicks, a few fasteners. I emphasize it is JUST STARTING, does not yet have a true foothold and a talented/patient individual could address it with a Dremel and paint pen.
SUNROOF -- working. seals nice, watertight.
HEADLIGHT BUZZER -- working
