West Coast Classics are proud to present this original southern California 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 4.6L V8 6 speed manual Coupe. This is a very rare model, only 3,768 Cobra SVT Coupes were built in 2004 and only 551 in Metallic Silver.
In 1999 the Cobra SVT DOHC was produced with 320 bhp & 317 lb ft, all this extra power would have been pointless without the underpinnings to back it up and new Cobra had them including a dramatic reduction (125 lbs) in unsprung weight along with improved independent rear suspension control. Traction control using ABS hardware minimized wheel spins. The Ford SVT has pulled out almost all the stops by 2003 by creating a Mustang Cobra which was now supercharged and which now boasted 390 bhp and which was matched to a 6 speed manual transmission. Factory Mustangs had never been so powerful, or indeed as expensive, so maybe it is no surprise that what turned out to be the final year of production for the 'Fox-4' 2004 SVT Cobra was all about tweaks.
The 40th anniversary 2004 Cobra was much the same as the 2003 Cobra with a few minor updates including a slightly updated exhaust system, which helped to eliminate the Gas Guzzler Tax that the 2003 suffered, as well as some minor interior change. Fords Special Vehicle Team (SVT) also unveiled a 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra Mystichrome package, with color-shifting paint that changes from green to blue to purple to black, at the 2003 New York Auto Show. The package also featured the industrys first production application of color-shifting leather interior trim.
While the supercharged Cobra returned from 2003 for one more year in 2004, production was limited to just under 5,000 units. The big news for the Snake was the addition of Mystichrome to the color palette. Mystichrome color-shifting paint changed from topaz green to cobalt blue to royal purple, and finally to deep onyx black as the viewing angle changed. Even the seats and steering wheel had leather color-shifting inserts. Only 1010 Mystichrome Cobras were produced515 coupes and 495 convertibles. The Cobra was also available in Screaming Yellow, Competition Orange, Ebony, Redfire, Silver Metallic, Torch Red, and White. An easy way to tell a 2004 Cobra from a 2003 is that the 2004's keyhole on the drivers door is all chrome, where the 2003 model had black trim.
