Description
Drive away,1992 model FORD Ranger XLT on a 1993 plate. 2.3 Litre pinto engine, rear wheel drive, 6ft bed, super economical 28mpg motorway. Ice cold fully working air con, variable speed wipers, bench seat with arm rest.
For sale as I'm moving house and don't have the space for the truck anymore. I bought the truck 6 months ago as the base for a project. The idea was to swap the cylinder head out for a cylinder head off an 89 - 90 Volvo 740GLE B234F engine which can be used on the Ford 2.3L OHC short block, and set up a turbo configuration as seen in the 1980s Turbo Mustangs, SVO Mustangs, Merkur XR4Tis, and Thunderbird Turbo Coupes. The Ford bottom end with the exception of the stock pistons is rated for big Bhp, which combined with the Porsche designed Volvo b234F head makes one hell of a motor. This type of conversion is known as a Folvo Build.
The truck is untouched and totally stock apart from the exhaust and a cone type air filter. The wheels on the truck were and extra option on the XLT. The engine ticks over like new, starts like new and is in great condition under the bonnet. The truck uses no oil at all, I check weekly due to age of the truck and never have the need to top her up. The bodywork is in excellent condition for the age of the truck, all locks and levers are functioning properly. Power steering and power brakes fitted as standard on the XLT, brand new Hankook tyres on the rear (2/09/15). Full stainless steel Powerflow custom exhaust system from the manifold down including a new cat. The whole system was fitted on the 15/07/15 and cost £500 with a lifetime guarantee from Powerflow. The exhaust has a rich deep sound and holds a nice consistent note whilst cruising and sounds more like a V6 than a pinto.
MOT until April 30th 2016
I use the truck as my daily driver and generally do about 20 miles a day, I have driven it to Gloucester a couple of times which is a 300 mile round trip and have had no issues with her at all. The truck handles great with responsive steering and braking. The engine pulls very well and moves smoothly through the gear, she eats up corners and accelerates well for a Pinto.
Bad points.
I removed the carpet when i got the truck, as it was a bit grim. Right now it is on the metal floor with mats. A new custom carpet with underlay will cost you £150. Apart from the carpet the interior is tidy, with nice clean seats, door cards and headlining.
Some small patches of surface blistering on the passenger lower door and on the lower quarter of the bed.
Overall a great little truck that you wont see anywhere else. Will last for years with little or no maintenance. Costs me £140 a year to insure on a classic policy with Footman James.
