Retirement forces me to part with my '05 Thunderbird.
Even with the 2002 wining Motor Trend Car of the Year, the 50th Anniversary Birds were arguably the best of breed due to running improvements over the 4 year production. Variable valve timing, increased horsepower, shift-able automatic and heated seats were among the improvements in the last couple years. And the combination of the 50th Anniversary, last year of production and lowest sales numbers makes the 2005 the rarest and arguably most collectible version. (Note: All 2005 Thunderbirds were badged as "50th Anniversary". This is not to be confused with the limited edition 50th Anniversary model with a unique color and interior tweaks.)
This example also stands out due to its less than one year color and rare optional light sand trim color. 1,461 cars were built in Medium Steel Blue and only 267 had the Light Sand Trim Package. The combination is stunning and always gets compliments, even from other Tbird owners.
The Light Sand Package adds the following:
Light sand convertible top and soft boot. Light sand leather seats, steering wheel trim and shift knob. Unique light sand edged floor mats. Unique bronze door trim, dash trim, shifter bezel, door sill logos and center instrument stack. Unique beige gauge faces.
