1971 Ford Torino GT 4-Speed Convertible

1971 Ford Torino GT 4-speed Convertible This is a very rare Muscle Car up for auction being a convertible with a 4-speed. They only made 1613 examples of the 1971 Torino GT Convertible. We believe that less than 400 were made with a 4-speed. According to the Deluxe Marti Report there were only 13 examples ordered with this paint and trim, and only 51 with this paint code. Only a mere 97 were made with this engine and transmission, and only 71 were ordered with the chrome Magnum 500's. The Deluxe Marti Report is shown in the pictures, and will be included with this sale. I recently made this purchase with a buddy. We've only had this extremely rare collectible for a little over a month, so we will explain everything we know about this rare find. It was sold on 02/15/71 from Cornell Motors located at 102 North Milwaukee street in Plymouth, WI 53073. This factory ordered original Torino GT Convertible is verified on the Deluxe Marti Report as an original Maroon Metallic paint car with laser striping that came with a white top and white interior. There has only been one repaint somewhere over the years. There is some checking in the paint, but I would rate it as a decent drivers quality paint job that looks about 10-15 years old. You have to be right up on the car to see where it has some imperfection. The laser stripes are not the originals, but are new reproduction of the factory originals from Phoenix Graphics in Arizona and really highlight this body. This Torino was factory ordered with the sweet hideaway headlight option. The headlight doors are not connected, but from everything we see we believe everything is there to hook them up. Someone with a little hideaway headlight knowledge should be able to figure it out pretty easily. I've heard that an electronic hideaway headlight set-up is now available for around $300 if anyone would like to update the headlight system. We believe this car has the original 4-speed T-shifter handle. It just doesn't get much better than this for all the diehard Torino guys out there. The gentleman we bought this cool droptop from said this GT has the original numbers matching engine and the mileage is correct at just over 94K. We will seek out any numbers for anyone who makes the request and can tell me where to locate them. This rare Torino GT has a 351 Cleveland engine with a new Edelbrock aluminum performer intake manifold that has a new performance Holley 750 double pumper 4-barrel carburetor. This engine really gets up and rocks with the beefed up posi-traction rear end. The guy we purchased the car from said he freshened up many items on this Cleveland engine. We would suggest viewing the engine pictures closely in case something was missed in the description. He said he recently installed new push rods, lifters, and valve cover gaskets. The timing chain, timing gears, and water pump with new gaskets were recently installed. There is a newer very expensive MSD ignition, MSD coil, MSD high performance distributor, Holley electronic fuel pump, and all new belts and hoses. The new aluminum radiator for maximum cooling has an electric fan. We were told there is a high performance cam, and a nice set of Doug's headers. There are all new expensive billet pulleys to cool down the new water pump with ease, and less stress. The power brake booster and the master cylinder are new with new brake lines. There are new shocks in the front and the rear. There is a new Napa heavy duty battery, and a fresh oil change with a new Napa filter. I have to say that this Torino GT is a very fast car with all of the new high performance parts. Good thing it was factory ordered with power front disc brakes. This GT was also factory ordered with power steering, but set-up with the correct manual box to make it handle like a true muscle car should. The power steering can always be added back on if the new owner would like, but the way this steering is set-up, it handled very well when it was driven an hour and a half home after the purchase. There is a pair of dual sport mirrors painted to match the body color. A pair of new correct factory door edge guards are on the ends of the clean doors. These doors open and close like new with no sagging. The original bench seat was installed to keep the car more original according to the Marti report. The balance of the interior appears in relatively nice condition as seen in the pictures. The boot is draped over the back portion of the rear seat, but it is in as nice condition as the rear seat bottom. Having it placed that way makes it easier to put in place when the top is down. The head lights, bright lights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, all four cornering lights, and even the license plate light all work well. There is a smaller tachometer attached to the top of the steering column and is a much needed item on such a powerful car. The dash pad looks nice, and it was never all cut up to fit aftermarket stereo's like was typically done back in the day. It looks as if the original Ford Philco AM radio is still in place in the dash, but currently not hooked up. A very nice JVC AM/FM stereo CD player with MP3 capability is mounted inside the glove compartment to allow the factory appearance of the dash board. A new pair of Infinity speakers are mounted in the front on the side kick panels, so the occupants of the car can actually hear music playing with the top down. There is a nice set of four custom black Torino carpeted floor mats. The convertible top is new, but was installed by a novice, and they forgot the inner padding, and the front bow strip, along with the back tacking strip that always has the chrome ends on them. Those items total around $100-$150 from my past experience with convertible's. Stretching the top properly and adding those inexpensive items will be left up to the new owner. Since the top was never finished the two top hydraulic cylinders were not hooked back up, but the top does go up and down manually, and latches down awesome. Plus it has a very nice California convertible top boot that actually fits well and stays in place while the car is being driven. There is a complete set of four P235/60R14 inch B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A raised white lettered steel belted radial tires on a brand new set of four chrome Magnum 500 wheels with a new chrome lug nuts, and a set of four brand new center caps. The trunk pan appears in very good original condition. The correct new factory trunk mat was placed on top of the trunk floor. In fact, the entire undercarriage was detailed in low gloss black, and from everything we've seen, this car is ready to cruise and enjoy for many years to come. This car is being sold with an open, clean, and clear Wisconsin title in my name. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1971 Ford Torino GT Convertible with a 351 engine, ram-air, bucket seats, and a factory four speed valued at $64,320 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $32,320 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! In my opinion this car is in better than what Nada classifies a car as average condition. An exorbitant amount of time, money, and effort went into seeing this rare classic reach this level listed in this quick 3-day "No Reserve" auction. We personally believe this rare gem is very capable of reaching the higher end of the average price range with a simple paint job. We're not saying that this classic is anywhere near Barrett-Jackson standards, but have witnessed these cars sell in excess of 50K at live auction. These Torino GT Convertible's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. Whether you had one as a youth and would like to recapture that glory or you just want to drive around and enjoy your bank account while it makes you a very lucrative profit, this may be the classic you've been dreaming of. Everywhere you drive these cars people are attracted to them like a magnet. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. Especially one in this documented color combination.
