Description

On offer is a one owner, genuine 1983 VH Group 3 Brock Commodore that’s in exceptionally good condition.
Delivery of this outstanding HDT was taken in August, 1983 by the current and only owner.
In 1991 (at approximately 90,000 kms) the 308 ci engine was rebuilt by renowned South Australian engine builder Neville Smith from ‘Specialty Tuning’.
Rebuild specifications include:
* the GM-H ‘blue engine’ block was bored out by +30 thou and machined perfectly square both top and bottom;
* all of the brand new ‘Speed-Pro’ flat-top forged pistons were each balanced to exactly the same weight of 454.0 grams;
* all of the brand new ‘L34’ conrods were each balanced to exactly 327.0 grams each;
* the compression ratio was increased to 10.0:1;
* the crank and both heads were machined and ported and matched perfectly square to the precisely ‘decked’ block;
* a ‘Crower’ racing cam; and
* the 780 cfm ‘Rochester’ carburettor was hand blueprinted,
as a result of which, to quote Neville Smith, “If sitting on a test bench this engine will sit on 7,000 revs all day”.
The gear box is the original M21 ‘Muncie’ 4 speed and the diff is the original ‘Salisbury’ - both as specified by GM-H.
The bonnet scoop has been activated by means of a tailor made aluminium cold air intake and a “K&N” air filter system.
Wheels (including the spare) comprise the original 16” X 8” ‘Centra’ rims shod with virtually brand new 225/50/16 Kumho tyres and NO break dust taint is apparent.
The car has travelled just over 139,000 kms - but under 50,000 of which kms have been put on since the rebuild in 1991 - and a big percentage of the distance travelled since 1991 has been long distance / freeway driving with the front end of the car always protected from stone chips and radiator bug ingestion by a tailor made car bra - which car bra is included in the sale.
All that said, the car has not been road registered since 2007.
The interior décor of the car is the original HDT spec burgundy vinyl and cloth trim and, while not in 100% condition (for example, some of the burgundy vinyl around the centre console is lifting slightly), it is, for all intents and purposes, unmarked.
The exterior paintwork is the original “Maranello Red” and, other than very minor cosmetic markings, is in pristine original condition. There are no “shopping trolley dings” or similar on any panel, the number of trips this car having made to shopping centres and the like being able to be counted on one hand. The original ‘wind splits’ were removed in the late 1980’s after they’d faded and buckled.
All of the original (circa 1983) HDT delivery paperwork is included and the owner has kept a record (that’s also offered with the car) of:
* every single maintenance and servicing item that’s ever been attended to; and
* every fuel load that’s been put into the car!
In pristine condition this car would be worth between $55K and $60K any day of the week but because there are a few, minor cosmetic blemishes (easily correctable as they are) the owner is asking a very modest $50,000.00.
The car was fully serviced in February, 2016 and is available, post registration by the new buyer, on an immediately ‘drive away’ basis.
This car offers a discerning, sophisticated buyer that truly appreciates the bygone days of “The Big Banger” touring cars (ie: those built and raced prior to the VK ‘Group A’ category) a rare opportunity to snare a small piece of Australian motoring history.
