Description
1984 HOLDEN STATESMAN DEVILLE
EASY RESTORATION PROJECT
Vehicle has been in storage for several years awaiting restoration but time, health and imminent relocation means project must be abandoned. This is not a big restoration project. Externally, a repaint will be required. Effectively, nothing is required internally - seat covers and protective sheets have kept the velour upholstery in excellent condition. Mechanically, I proposed to do the heads (desirable at 250k and with dual fuel). Engine starts and runs but obviously, after years in storage, the odd seal and brake refurbishment would be required but nothing major. All glass is OK. All trim is on the vehicle but some clips etc. have become brittle with age and would need replacing. Gearbox, diff and drive train all OK.
THE GOOD
- Only two owners since new - original owner was Dealer Principal Beazley and Bruce - Canberra GM dealers
- Never been in accident - no rust issues
- Only 250,000Km on original untouched engine
- Dual fuel (LPG will need re-certification)
- Reconditioned automatic with less than 5000Km
- SS exhaust with headers to compensate for LPG power reduction
- Interior 9.5 out of 10 - no dash cracks, no real restoration required
- Some spares included in sale - rear venetian, water pump, rear shockers, workshop manual, dash mat, spare wheel trims, new door seals
THE NOT SO GOOD
- Needs full repaint. I had intended bare metal. Like all GM metallic paint jobs of the 80's, crazing has occurred which has worsened in storage.
- White film evident on exterior is result of rust inhibitor and heat sweat from protective tarp.
- Rear bumper intact but displaying corrosion above exhaust pipe - common fault with this model
- Replacement air conditioning compressor and hoses required
For a mechanically minded enthusiast with spray painting skills, this represents a great restoration project with minimal outlay. These vehicles are appreciating in value every day and are rapidly becoming collector items. Spares availability is excellent through Rare Spares, Holden Mania or EBay.
Regrettable sale but must go!
