TORANA 1977 LX SEDAN SLR LOOKALIKE - THIS IS NOT A FACTORY BUILT SLR.
Wife has finally said no more money to be spent on this car and therefore it has to go. The final straw was my intention to buy a reproduction SLR steering wheel and SLR dash - All that is now needed to visually finish this car.
HISTORY- This LX left the Holden plant in Geelong , Victoria in August 1977. It was built as an SL sedan with a 173 cubic inch red 6 Cylinder motor and column automatic transmission . It may have been a special order car as it has an all black dashboard (No silver insert ), Bucket seats and very rare trim colour of "Sienna" - Like a Terra Cotta colour. I have owned the car for the last 12 years and began a slow restoration . Over this time have spent lots of time and money on the vehicle and am selling well below cost.
SCOPE OF WORK. - I bought this car with accident damage to the Right hand front suspension and rail from am impact from what looked to be have been caused by striking a low object such as a post etc,. A Second hand suspension was fitted and the rail straightened. All removable panels taken off . Visible rust in Doors , Bonnet and roof moulds cut out , New steel sections fabricated and welded in. Minimal filler. Panels sent to a panel beater but returned with disappointing results as there are imperfections in all panels from previous hale and parking/scrape damage. Entire car resprayed but not perfect due to the panel damage as specified. Large dents in the roof - (Maybe some mongrel has jumped on it at some time) That also need repair. Doors fish oiled. Interior trim repaired (In leather ) as my auto trimmer could not match the original in vinyl. New carpet . Mechanical repairs to Brakes, Reconditioned Steering rack , New front brake hoses, Complete new exhaust, New master cylinder and Electrical work. The car still has the original jack and radio (Radio not working ) but another fitted from a UC Torana . T bar auto fitted. Console also from a UC installed.
The car is registered for almost 12 months and drives well, Although the 173 does not perform like a SLR would!. I always wanted an SLR and this was the only way I could come close to having one. It was sprayed in enamel and relatively easy to strip and repair if you are a panel beater of have one as a good friend. Or just drive the car and enjoy it. Colour is Ford XR6 " Octane". I have a fairly comprehensive photo record of the work and make it available, As with various receipts for work done. The car is located in Kenthurst , About one hour from the centre of Sydney city. I welcome and suggest looking at the car before bidding as I want to feel comfortable in selling the car so there are no disappointments for a prospective buyer.
