Description
Relisted at Lower Buy it now and NO reserve! Let's get this baby a new home. Please read entire description.
After much debate and consideration I'm selling my sweet CRX. This car has been sought out and loved by all it's owners. It was first owned in Arizona. The second owner lived in Colorado and flew to Arizona to buy it and drive it home. He babied it and kept it in great shape and then put it up for sale. I flew up to Colorado and drove it home to Texas. So, everyone that sees this car wants it. I am stopped weekly (daily driver) with compliments or offers to buy. Now is your chance. This is NO teenage tuner.
1988 unmolested original engine and HF transmission. Currently has 153,000 miles on it. That’s only 6,000 miles per year over it’s life. Here's what I have done since I've owned it over the last 3 years.
New complete Paint - $900 In Feb of 2012 I was rear ended in the car. It did very little damage (basically front and rear bumpers and head and tail lights) but the insurance company totaled it. The insurance company totaled it so it has a salvage title. The damage was minimal (see photos) I kept the car, replaced the damaged parts and had it repainted to it's currently beautiful state.
New Windshield -$175
New brakes front and back, rotors, drums, pads. $250
New front Upper control arms - $175
Front strut brace - $75
Rear strut brace (makes for go cart handling) $75
Aftermarket high flow air intake. (will include original as well) - $150
Aftermarket steering wheel (will include original as well) $75
New Radiator - $125
New AC condenser $140
All new carpet throughout - $250
All new custom leather seats, Matching shift boot and steering wheel and arm rests - $900
-KILLER, I mean KILLER Alpine system with Blue tooth wireless phone. MB quart speakers in doors and rear. Focal tweeters on dash. Alpine 1,000 watt amp, 2 MB quart 12" low profile subs custom mounted in the spare tire well. (I had a sub box but it was stolen. This custom tire well method prevents theft as it is hidden and mounted- NICE) Total $1800 NOTE- Stereo, speakers, woofers and amp is NOT included unless bidding goes over $5200. Winning Bidder can negotiate getting the stereo if bidding is close. If bidding goes over $5200, I will include stereo, speakers, amp and subs.
Custom tint all around - $125
FULL dynamat in entire cargo area, dynamat in doors and closed cell foam in front driver and passenger area for sound deadening and LOW road noise. $200
New ignition harness - $180.
New Powder coated Valve cover and gasket. (note: 16 valve cover is not original, I have the original but I found this powder coated one on ebay and thought it looked cool)
New Plugs and Plug wires $40
New Battery - $75
New Fuel pump $350 (lots of labor)
New Timing belt and water pump - $175.
Brighter LED lights in dome light and cargo light - $30.
Synthetic blend oil changed every 2500-3,000 miles.
-Notice the photo of the much need CRX console cup holder and coin tray which was a custom install from a 1994 Taurus.
Here is what I am VERY proud of. On my last full tune up it gotwait for it67 mpg!! Yes, you read correctly. That was on a 150 mile trip driving 55-60 mph without the A/C. During the summer with the A/C, yes the A/C works great, it gets 40-45 mpg on highway, 38-42 in the city. NO other cars get this mileage! In the Spring, Fall and winter when you do not use the A/C it will get 45-55 mpg depending on how you drive. The lowest it has EVER gotten is 37 when I was "hot rodding" around town. Hybrids don't even get that. This is because it's been well preserved, the 88 HF is the lightest of the CRX's, has the original engine, original 5 speed transmission with TALL gears and it's been adult owned. I would drive this car across country today. Depending on what you drive now, consider how much you will save in gas each month to justify the price. Plus the insurance is SUPER low.
Similar CRXs have sold across the country for $5,000 to $7,000. This one is ready to go with little to no additional expense, depending on what you want to do.
What it can use-
Shocks, they are fine but if you'd like smoother or stiffer handling, get some.
CV boots
Previous owner put in an aftermarket sunroof. It leaked. I had no desire to use it so I just sealed it shut with clear silicone. No more leaks.
Temp gauge doesn’t work- I installed an aftermarket guage.
The climate control system has a crack in the dash (common CRX problem) I may have this fixed before auction close.
Honestly, I believe this is one of the sharpest CRX's out there. If you belong to a car club you will be revered with compliments! This baby can be registered as an antique here in Texas. Because it is more than 25 years old, it no longer requires emission test, just safety inspection - Bonus! Also, it is 25 years old and not perfect or flawless but it's very dependable.
