Description

1972 Jaguar E-Type (XKE) 2+2Series III. This XKE Series III is an automatic with factory AC and has 58,935 K miles, thought tobe original. The car has no rust anywhere. The body is straight and smooth. Iwanted a Jaguar that I could drive a long distance to remote places withoutworry. After seeing “Any Jaguar V12” on multiple lists of the “worst classiccars to own”, and after much consternation and investigating the pros and consof conversions I decided to go with this. It is a V8 conversion to a GM 350 CIDengine and a GM Turbo 350 Hydramatic transmission. The best I can determine itis a L46 engine with 260 to 290 HP. Although the V12 is a strong and smoothengine, it is finicky, and expensive to have worked on, that is if you can evenfind someone to do it. It has six carburetors, two fuel pumps, two water pumps. No thanks. This car can be driven anywhere and serviced by anyone familiar with motor and drive systems
Work done within the last fiveyears (and about 3k miles), by the previous owner includes new AC system, newbrake system including booster and master cylinder, and new battery. Work Ihave done in the last two years (and about 750 miles) includes all new originalspec exhaust system, all new original spec suspension including shocks, springsand many bushings, entire car sound deadened, rebuilt speedometer, rebuiltEdelbrock carburetor, new ignition system, new motor mounts, new fuel pump, upgraded alternator, allnew tires (very quiet), new headliner, new stereo and front speakers, new blackand yellow coco mats, new leather steering wheel cover w/ yellow stitching. Thiscar has factory tinted windows and also has the front stereo system speakerswhich I believe were the only two factory options offered other than AC. Gear shiftknob matches horn button. All systems work except the factory clock is missingand covered with a plate. Non-standard Jaguar badges/emblems, inside and out, are put onwith double-faced tape and can be easily removed.
I recently took it on a nine (9)hour road trip to test the car and myself. My objective for this car was tomake it run and drive like a Cadillac. Believe it or not I substantiallyaccomplished this. There are no rattles, no wind noise, little or no roadnoise. All that is left is throaty exhaust noise, which I could eliminate butdo not want to. The car ran strong the entire time.
At any rate I am selling becausemy wife and I have decided to buy an RV and older Jeep and travel.
Jaguar E-Type XKE.
