Description
This vehicle was purchased via eBay several years ago for restoration, but was never completed. Much work was carried out on the vehicle, as follows (in no particular order):Rust free body was repainted with all bright work removed and later replaced.
Front and rear glass re and re with new seals
Steering components replaced.
All stainless steel exhaust system.
New rear springs.
New water pump.
Front door panels were reconstructed with new hardboard
Front door armrests recovered
Front and rear seats have been replaced with XJ6 seats
Carpet set was purchased but not installed
Brake calipers were rebuilt.
New universal joints were installed.
Rear parcel shelf was replaced.
Headliner was replaced with correct material.
The major problem with the vehicle is the automatic transmission; it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle starts well and can be driven short distances as is. I understand it could be driven longer distances if you were to disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission and plug up the hole to stop fluid leaking outbut I wouldn't recommend driving it several hundred miles!
I was told that the car was owned by the same lady in New York for the first 45 years of it's life. She must have only driven it in the summer as the body, frame etc. was and is in remarkably good condition. There is now some orange peel in the paint and bubbling.due to a combination of poor quality paint and applicator.
There are no exterior rear view mirrorsjust the interior one.
The woodwork all needs refinishing (some was removed for refinishing some time ago but never carried out).
There are several boxes of parts that came (and come) with the car.which reminds me that a replacement fuel pump was installed (not electronic).
The starter is original, so it cranks over very slowly by comparison with a modern vehicle.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
