Description
I am having to say goodbye to our beloved Jag as we are now carrying dogs around instead of kids! It has been our motorway high-speed cruiser, for the last two and a half years, taking us down to Malta on many occasions, in extreme quiet comfort , thanks to the air suspension, acoustic glass, and the smoothest V6 diesel installation known to man! It will be a very hard act to follow, but if you are after an XJ which is modern, but has a traditional feel this is the one to go for.
It has the right body, prior to the Armoured car facelift, the right colour combination, the right front grill, the right wheels, and the right mileage to ensure everything that is likely to need doing, has been done!
In my ownership it has has had two new turbos and catalytic converters, as they were starting to get noisy, both rear suspension wishbones, a common problem, and front shock absorber bushes. It also has 3 as new pirelli p zeros, and one part worn Dunlop, thanks to an Italian pothole! Jaguar serviced the car at 105000, and replaced the cam belt. I also had a very slight vibration at low speed on slight inclines, but Jaguar were unable to diagnosed the problem! After doing much research I found that the 6speed ZF box is fitted to a host of other cars, which exhibit the same symptoms, and in particular, the 5series BMW. The problem turns out to a design fault in the torque converter clutch, which starts to show it self at higher mileage. On our last trip to Malta, I had the the torque converter replaced with a modified unit from Bristol Transmissions with pan and oil changed, before returning to the UK, just to be on the safe side.
The other area of concern on a number of modern diesels is the DPF and EGR valves. As we were spending some time on Malta pottering around, in a manner totally unsuitable for DPF regeneration, I commissioned P&P Autos of Taunton, to neutralise the DPF, and EGR's, and also install a mild remap ungrade, without affecting the MOT requirements. This had the effect of improving reliability, giving a small power increase, and inspite of high speed cruising, returned over 40mpg on all our foreign trips.
I hope I have covered everything, but if not please ask.07535086199
