Description
Very sharp looking Jaguar. The Pacific Blue paint with Ivory (white) interior draws lots of compliments. Just the car for driving to the ice cream stand on a warm summer evening or to the mountains on a crisp fall afternoon. AC blows cold enough that you can keep the top down up to about 95 degrees and still be comfortable. The white seats remain cool even in direct sun.
Apparently this car was damaged shortly after purchase, and kept in storage during protracted litigation. Therefore the low mileage. Damage was to passenger door, right front fender, and hood. The car was later restored to driver condition. This is what you would call a "good looking ten footer." OK, maybe twenty footer. Leather is in good condition, with only a couple scuffs and a very small hole on the side of the seat near the driver's left shoulder. Leather seat faces are in perfect condition. The convertible top is in very good condition and fits properly. The motor pulls strongly and the transmission shifts smoothly. It will cruise comfortably all day at eighty-five, which is the de facto speed limit on California freeways. With a couple exceptions noted below, all the controls work properly. All the instruments work. The radio and power antenna work, but I've never used the CD player. The CD magazine is present. I upgraded the puny stock headlights for better night driving and a set of spare bulbs is included. New Michelin tires, correct size and rating were installed at 10,000 miles. The wheels look very good, with only minor curb rash on portions of the rims. As seen in the photos, there is no front license plate bracket. I think the car looks better with a clean front end. Neither the CHP nor the Sacramento PD have given me grief about this. Note, the California tags are good through January 2018. The car has always passed smog check.
Included with this car are new front mats, one key with key fob (works), and a full car cover from California Car Cover. There is also a model year 2000 Owner's Manual, which appears to cover everything on this car.
Since my purchase in January 2014, at 9800 miles, all service and repairs to this car have been performed by British Car Service of Sacramento.
The front shocks have recently been replaced, and the shock towers rebuilt with new bushings.
Chrome instrument trim rings (standard beginning in 2004) have been added, as well a a chrome surround on the J-gate shifter.
Now, what are the flaws with this car? I'll list every one that I know about:
1) Occasionally shows a warning indicating a problem with the taillights. Taillights have been checked by the shop and no fault found. Hey, if it didn't have electrical glitches it wouldn't be a Jaguar.
2) Car was originally equipped with a power headrest adjustment. These do not function, but they're set at a comfortable height for most people.
3) Passenger seatback angle adjustment does not work. However, I devised a work-around. Had the shop make me a two wire connection directly to the seatback angle adjustment motor and a wire pair that plugs into the 12 volt socket. Applying voltage one way raises the seatback, opposite polarity lowers the seatback. All the other seat controls work properly.
4) These car were equipped with a mechanism that lowered the window about an inch when the door was opened, then raised the window back up when the door was closed. Passenger side works properly but driver's side goes down, but not back up. I raise the window to about a quarter inch of fully up after opening the door. That works.
5) There are a few very fine scratches in the hood (bonnet) and trunk lid (boot). These did not show up in the photos, and are visible only if you get very close to the surface. Both of these panels are aluminum so the scratches will not create a rust problem.
6) The panel gaps for the passenger door are not quite correct, and there is a paint run adjacent to the rear edge of the door. Otherwise the paint all looks good as factory.
7) The hood (bonnet) is a replacement panel and has an emblem for the 4.0 liter motor used in previous model years instead of the 4.2 liter motor used in 2003.
There are no fluid leaks whatsoever.
Reason for selling: Bought a newer BMW Z4 convertible.
Some notes on the salvage title. The state of Florida had issued a rebuilt title. California doesn't issue rebuilt and stuck me with a salvage title. To the best of my knowledge, the only damage was to the passenger door, right front fender, and hood. Sheet metal only. On Carfax the accident is described as minor, while the salvage title is listed as major. This just means you're not going to be able to sell the car to a dealer.
